Hi,

Im looking for recommendations for decent driving roads around Cheshire/Derbyshire area.Is the Cat and Fiddle as ruined by the average speed camera as everyone makes out?
Thanks

Have a look at how close north Wales is. Then look through some previous threads.

I'd definitely look at north Wales, it has some of the best driving roads in the UK, all well documented on PH and elsewhere.

Derbyshire roads are crowded, poorly maintained and overrated; the Cat & Fiddle and Snake Pass especially. If I want an enjoyable drive (I live on the edge of the Peak District) I head out of the county.

I tend to find Snake Pass near empty (mid week), apart from the temporary traffic lights (bikers want to overtake you much earlier).

Mortimer Road has been resurfaced last year, quite enjoyed its steep tight sections. driving

A49 is a good one down to Shropshire way (starts near Warrington and down), more a touring route than fun though - stop at the Cholmondeley Arms for a drink and some food, lovely little pub.

Go onto the TVR page and ask for the recent Peaks to Beach route.

Good to know for when I am next up there. The Strines (as I knew it growing up) is a great road!

Have they fixed Beeley Moor and the road down from the gliding club at Abney yet?

Can’t say as I’m based in Leeds/Huddersfield. Since the dog passed away last year, don’t travel there that often.
