Hi All,
My outriggers are looking rusty again. They are not the originals. Had them replaced by an Independent several years ago a part of a body lift. They used POR15 paint (at my request). What a mistake that was. The paint stuck well to the corroded chassis but not to the new outriggers. Paint started crackng and flaking off within 2 years and the job looks to need doing again.

As the main chassis is not corroded, I'm thinking of just getting the outriggers replaced without the body lift. Read that this can be done. Anyone had this done and recommend someone to do this? Recommendations not to use someone due to bad experience also welcomed.

Thanks.

You sure they have rusted that badly?
May still need a partial body lift to do it properly but maybe they can be cleaned up and saved?

I had my outriggers replaced by Sportmotive last year and would recommend that you speak to them.

They describe their process on their website https://www.sportmotive.com/

I get a strange 'your clock is ahead' warning on their website, and cannot connect to it. All other parts of the web, like being here, are fine. scratchchin

Picking this back up. They're just lightly pitted at the moment but the paint has peeled off around to the top of the tubes where you can't get at to paint.
Having done more research online, it looks cheaper (£2.5k) to get the outriggers replaced, than have the partial body lift (£7k ish).

Had a not great experience with these guys, which surprised me. Lovely people to deal with but quality of work was not what I had hoped for. Took TVR to them for a full respray and it looked great except had several palm-sized areas of paint that when the sun catches it, look like they are scratched with wire wool. Car went back 3 times for correction. Each time I got it back it looked great until I washed the car, then back to normal. Gave up in the end. Detailer has since said it is a fault with the clear coat.

Do they do stainless outriggers?
May be a good option if so, less to worry about.

I had mine done the other month by Topcats Racing. They replace outriggers on Chimera's without taking the body off. Have developed a process to allow them to do a replacement without removing the body.

Mainly do them during the winter months so be good time to give them a call: 01296 655109
They'll need to know the colour of your chassis for powder coating purposes.

If it's to replace them all the way up to the main chassis rail, that's the best way I reckon. Some 'specialists' were cutting holes in the bodyshell to enable them to weld all the way round, replacing the outer tubes only. frown

Remember that option from back in the day. No way I was going for that. Hopefully a bit more advanced these days.

If I'm honest, I can't see any outrigger replacement being done properly without a body lift of some sort or holes being cut in body. I've seen some proper st excuses in the flesh of so called outrigger replacements.

If you go all the way to the main chassis rails (as shown in the photos above), it can be done well without a body lift. I too, have seen on here some horror stories, welds only half way round the tube replacing just the outer rails. frown
