Cayman headlining
Discussion
Apologies if this has been covered previously, but the Search function found nothing.
Cayman 987.2, get in it this morning to find, out of the blue, the headlining sagging by some 2-3 inches across the whole roof. No previous hints of any movement. Could it be the heat? It's dark blue and not garaged.
Any thoughts/advice?
TIA

This happened with my 987 R earlier this year. I sense that when it goes (which is a well known issue, due to heat and the adhesive failing) it goes quick. Also happens with newer models too. Better to replace rather than repair. Cayman 987.2, get in it this morning to find, out of the blue, the headlining sagging by some 2-3 inches across the whole roof. Have you got round to repairing this yet? Just wondering if you have any costs or thoughts on headlining material?
Mine did the same a few months ago and I've been driving around with clothes pegs on the roof.
There's a company on eBay which sells replacement linings and I've also been in touch with a local trimmer but haven't visited them yet.
I'm seeing this as an opportunity for an Alcantara head lining, possibly with some coloured stitching.

I did toy with that idea but the only local coach trimmers are vintage etc specialists and not cheap, so I decided to stick with OEM. The lining alone is £850, plus labour, at a local specialist. They'd just had a Cayenne in, and the lining alone was about £7k from Porsche Mine did the same a few months ago and I've been driving around with clothes pegs on the roof.

Porsche really do take the piss
Recently went through this with mine. Kept off the road over winter and outside, was fine then a week later the headliner had come away completely.
Its not actually the glue that gives way, the foam itself degrades and separates over time, heat accelerates but it will get every car eventually! When you pull the old headlining off you can see the layer of glue still stuck, you need to use a wire brush to remove it!
Decided to DIY the repair and upgrade to Alcantara as my interior is starting to show scratches and I plan to retrim in the near future. It cost me less than 100 and about 3 hours of time including taking the liner out and back in, plenty of DIY guides how to do it.
For anyone interested in future you can also buy the original fabric here, https://tissens.com/en/automotive-roof-sky-fabrics...
