Can anyone recommend a travel insurance company that covers cancellation due to a dog boarder or kennel being unable to look after your pet at the last minute?
We are going abroad and our dog is being home boarded, but I am a professional over thinker, and this is my latest worry.

Sorry to jump on this thread but another pro overthinker here. Do policies generally cover you for cancellation due to a family member's passing. Also if not on a package will they cover flights and accommodation if, for example, there are wildfires at resort and you can't travel. Also if anyone knows where I can book reasonably cheap flights to Skiathos in September it would be much appreciated banghead

Yes lots cover cancellation due to a close family member passing. Check the definition of close family though. Yes cover will include flights and accommodation, it doesn’t have to be a package.
Just come back from Skiathos- no such thing as cheap flights particularly to Skiathos. We flew Easy Jet which were reasonable value.

Thanks for that Craig, first time not all inclusive for a while and it all seems a bit of a faff

What I discovered was that if a close family member was "very ill" and you cancelled your holiday, you were covered. However, if that same family member was "very ill" and you went on your holiday and they died whilst you were on holiday, you wouldn't be covered for any changed plans - e.g. return home early, cancel hotels and ferries that you'd already booked.

In the end it was academic as my Dad died a few days before we were due to go (not that we would have gone). This was not a package, it included 4 car ferries, 6 or 7 hotels and a villa. I cancelled everything and then my travel insurance covered anything that the various companies didn't refund, which was pretty much everything.

Never go AI to Greece. If you are going in September book the flights first and then there are loads of accommodation options available, particularly in September. Book somewhere in Magali Ammos then you are near the town and on the bus route to loads of beaches

I’ll just say please do not buy the cheapest insurance you can find. We once bought an annual policy with a company advertising in a newspaper. Sadly Mrs BC’s mother died suddenly and unexpectedly while we were on holiday. They tried every trick to avoid paying the valid claim.

They paid in the end but never again.

If you do think you will be needing to claim, document, document, document.

I’ve had 2 reasons to claim over the past few years, once with Covid and once when I left my phone on the plane.

At the time insurance was the last thing I was thinking another therefore didn’t take the correct steps at the time to satisfy the conditions to claim.

Both occasions fortunately didn’t end up costing too much money but if they had well I’d have been pretty annoyed.
