Hi all ive found out a work friend has been prescribed methadone due to previous drug abuse etc

i am worried if or not he should be driving or using machinery at work i, dont want him to be hurt or hurt someone else

is there anyway to find out for sure ?

he is very up and down with his behavour apparently he has a drug test each visit to the clinic he attends so needs to stay clean ?

ive never been involved with drugs before or have anyone else i can ask so thought PH would be a good start !

I wouldn't have thought so, same goes for any prescribed opiate.
Best not to drive while taking it - it will say something to that effect on the label.

Going to be a bit difficult if his job involves driving / operating machinery.

It is possible for those on a methadone or buprenorphine treatment programme to hold a license

DVLA rules are very strict.

When I was plod we were obliged to inform DVLA of anyone we dealt with as a drugs user if it was a controlled substance. Methadone is a tricky one as it's a controlled substance, but also prescribed. The main issue would be if the insurance company are aware as they usually require medical conditions etc.
