Radiator protection
Discussion
So I ve just got back from a car trip ruined by the fact my 911TS got a hole in the rear of the radiator and I got stuck in a place for 5 days waiting for it to be fixed (plus the costs). Having a hole appear due to stone strike in front I kind of understand but in the rear I never thought this happen. Clearly the limited protection in the wheel arch is not effect and you can see from this:

So I m thinking about installing some protection front and back (my countryside road to my house is covered is stones and my drive also).
However I know it will invalidate the warranty even though the GT cars have them, so I will have to remove each time the car goes totally the dealer if I go ahead.
Anyone done similar? Anyone where I could source this sort of thing?
Many thanks

Not sure what car you have, but I have fitted Zunsport grills on my Cayman and 991/992s and never had a problem with my warranty cover. There might be an issue if there problem was related to overheating, but that seems unlikely.
I never feel the need to remove the grills before servicing, but that is knowing my OPC (Tewkesbury) has never stated a concern.
You could alway ask them, but I would not bother.

As above, Zunsport grilles are the ones to fit.
Re Warranty, many OPCs don't have an issue with them and agree that they should be fitting. You can always take them off before it goes in for a service or for warranty work. It is worth taking them off once a year to clean the rads and suck or blow out any detritus that may be in there.

Maybe make some out of alloy mesh?
I have no idea of the space you have to work with but alloy mesh is easily formed into shapes, can be cut easily and if it's not visible then easily fixed with self tapers.
I have a 997.2 and bought the Zunns and I don't have an issue with damage from the front now they're fitted.

That photo the rear of the radiator btw.
Can you post a pic of what this area looks like on the car. I'm assuming inside the front wheel arch. Hopefully this will give us a better idea. Earlier 996 and 997 cars just have solid plastic covers here with no vents but I've seen some discussion from owners about adding holes to help air through put. Otherwise on these cars as standard the air flows through front openings easily then hits a brick wall just after the rads.Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
