Back story. I’ve been after one of these since they came out. I’ve travelled the country, North and South, looking at them over the years but was always let down when I turned up. Anyway, I had a decent bonus this Christmas so was determined to not blow it all on st!
At first, I’d forgot about these and was looking at Alfa’s , just as a weekend toy. I went to view a couple of GT’s, but they were absolute dogs. I then switched to trying to find a nice Giulietta Cloverleaf, but again, the majority of them are all hammered.
After a few months of looking and wasted trips, my mind started wandering about my nemesis. Is there any still about? Any good ones? The search began.
This lead me to last week. An advert on eBay popped up. Could this be the one? Better send a few messages and see what the best offer would clinch it. Multiple messages and pictures followed, which then led to today.

Train booked. I’m on my way North again.

I seem to be attracted to doing this route.

Quick change at Haymarket.

Finally arrived at my destination. Kirkcaldy.
Sat in the Memorial Garden cafe while waiting for the owner to come and pick me up.

Finally made it home. It’s been a long day. 10 hours there and back, but the car ran really well. Happy with it.

And here it is. Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Sport. The full 180bhp version with proper Torsen Quattro, not Haldex. Low owners, full history, very well kept, but does need a few jobs doing.
I’m going to go all the way through it and swap/replace any worn part with new, genuine items. The headlining is sagging, so that’ll be swapped. The wheels have been recently refurbed, but not the best job. They’ve gone too heavy with the powder in places. I’ll get these done again and have the correct diamond lip put back this time round.
I’ll drop the sump, replace the pick up pipe and give it another full service. Discs are looking a little tired, so these will be swapped and lastly, it needs more power. So looks like I’ll get this one chipped and stick a full stainless system on it. Not a huge amount of headroom on this turbo set up, but I’ll be happy with 210/220bhp. The extra torque is quite noticeable once chipped.

To be continued.

I had an X-reg A6 in that hue. Still miss it. Great era for Audi design imo.

Lovely looking car, OP. Congrats. Will watch with interest.

Thanks. It still has that distinctive Audi smell that I remember. Brought back many memories driving home.

Only given it a quick wash. Pads will be coming out soon and getting a full hit. Quite a few marks/swirls in the paint, 2 scratches that are too deep to polish out, so those will be wet sanded back, touched up and cut/polished back.
I’ve booked my windscreen man for a new screen and surrounds. Always a better driving experience with a blemish free screen rofl I’ll see what he says about the rear one as the metal surround at the top (metal part) has started to come away. Not sure if these are easily swapped or not?

That's fair enough - so has the 320D gone; or is this bit of a side hustle?

Are you ever tempted to upgrade the tech inside the car ? Pit apple car play etc etc ?
For me that’s the only thing that lets old cars down

No. I’ll keep the 320D forever. Perfect for running up and down the motorway everyday. I just wanted something for car meets/ ride outs. Bit of a modern classic and something to mess around with in the garage.

No. Not into tech at all. Happy with a radio and 6 x CD changer in the boot.
