1996 TVR Griffith 500
Discussion
No mention of this one being the 96 ( built for a few months only ) HC model, which supposedly had a tad more power.
Few HCs seem to have been built as they don t come up very often.
My 96 500 HC feels every bit as quick as my tweaked 98 model did, so perhaps the HC does have a little more HP.
Also, the OE Cat really strangles these, night and day difference once de catted.
The original LT 77 gear box was used on the first 500s, but the BW T5 is a far better box.
From circa mid 94, the “ Serpentine “ engine replaced the earlier design.
From 97, the chassis were powder coated white and I believe I am correct in saying that these chassis frames were built in Malaysia. The white finish is not as durable as the earlier grey finish.
This car is also fitted with a rear anti roll bar. My 96 doesn t appear to have ever been fitted with one - it wasn t on there in 06 when I first owned it - but my 98 car had one, with Steve Heath drop links.
For 97 on, the front inner wings were painted body color, which looks way better than the earlier cars satin black finish.
For me personally a 96 is the sweet spot.
