As above really! Any suggestions for what we can get into something a bit more modern?

We have a BMW 2 series Gran Tourer. In many ways it’s perfect for our needs but we’ve had it from new for 9 years and after a spring went earlier in the year the missus is thinking there will be some big bills coming. It’s her car. It’s a manual, diesel. However, it has all the space we need (pretty much) for teenagers, mountain biking, golfing, camping etc. it’s also the perfect height for my mum who since her stroke is mainly in a wheelchair, so it’s very easy for her to get in and out and we can fit 6 of us in it with space for the wheelchair. Wife’s mum is also very mobility restricted and her dad can’t drive anymore.

We’d been looking at SUV 7 seaters but that won’t work due to the height, as stepping up and into it is out.

So, nothing too high to step into, boot over 560 litres (ideally more), auto, 6 seats. Any thoughts? And no, we don’t want a berlingo etc!

Unfortunately the best 7 seaters have all been killed off in favour of more fashionable SUVs, which are less practical.

Off the top of my head - VW Touran, Dacia Jogger...

A colleague of mine has the 7 seat Dacia Jogger because he has an elderly mother in a wheelchair and he really rates it because it's easy for her to access and with the rear most seats down the wheelchair goes in easily so well worth a look

Wouldn't a late model Smax do the job?

I have a jogger too. 7 year warranty if you get it serviced there (£300-£400 a year).

Can highly recommend over a touran.

Thanks - slim pickings it would seem!

We looked at the SMAX when we bought the 2 series. 2 series felt (and still does) a level above in terms of interior fit out, but will see what we can find.

Jogger, similar to above - while it may be superb I think it'll be a hard sell to my wife who has got used to the BMW - lots of soft touch plastics etc, but will def go and have a look, not a brand I know too much about tbh.

What we'd really like is an XC90 or the new Santa Fe (wife's favourite) as the car does long journeys and they are both just big, comfy carswithout the need to use the roof box while travelling, and then fitting everyone inside in comfort when there. Santa Fe is expensive though.

A spring breaking on an otherwise perfect vehicle seems like a bit of a knee jerk reaction for a sale?

Seeing you didn t mention a budget, the Lexus LM.

Could get a JDM import of its sister car the Toyota Alphard, or any of the other Japanese equivalents.

They are still big on the MPV’s out there. The main Japanese manufacturers have C, D and E segment versions.

Honestly love the Honda Step Wagon. Would buy one in a heartbeat if they sold that here new. Very practical with a dose of geek chic.

Tourneo or V Class seems the obvious choice? They actually drive and ride pretty well and are comfortable, well equipped etc. flexible too so you can take some seats out when you don t need them to give an enormous load space.

Much easier to climb into than an SUV, I just sold my six seat transit custom last year, we used to take my elderly in-laws in it all the time, a Tourneo would be more comfortable and flexible though.

Mine was previous gen but something like this?

Someone I know recently purchased a Volvo XC90 of some description to ferry 7 people around, no idea if that's an option.

We've had it a long time and been looking to change it for 3 years - it's more that it's the accelerator rather than the reason. It's twist or stick time - if we can find a better option we can jump, if not we'll end up in it till it dies and spend more on the preventative stuff (like a suspension refresh etc).

Wow, that's a whole world I know very little about - will have look. The new Toyota Alphard has some front end on it!

Jap import is definitly the way to go if its an mpv you require.

The Honda Elysion is also a nice bus.

VW Multivan maybe, if you want something from nearer to home? They really hold their value as well.
