Picked my GT up from Martins (replaced intercooler due to a split in the heat exchanger), gave back the "S" that they had kindly loaned me. Interesting to make the comparison between the two, and now I think changing the springs to Life110 would make my ideal car. The GT now has over 1k on it so I took the opportunity of stretching the (self imposed) rev limit to 5k rpm manually through the gearbox, and all I can say is WOW. Only car I can really compare acceleration to it to is my old TVR Sagaris but the GT did not have the TVR's unnerving feature of the bonnet trying to leave the car smile.

I've only managed a pathetic 350 miles in 7 weeks, however its been interesting to note some changes over that mileage.

The first is in sport mode (bearing in mind I'm nowhere near full throttle and not over 3.5k due to running in) the car seems to have gained a slightly more hard edged growl and slightly louder pops and bangs then when I first picked it up.

The second is (I assume due to the engine loosening up a bit) the engine seems a bit more responsive and smooth. Not massive difference and could be placebo but I'm sure I'm not imagining it.

I'm going to start opening mine up a bit more from 600 miles and carry out an engine oil change, it cant hurt and I'm sure I've read somewhere that metal contaminants in the oil rise sharply in the first 500 miles and then taper off.

PS OP, glad you didnt have to have your engine out in the end!

The owner's manual says "avoid sporty driving until 1864 miles" although I've no idea what "sporty driving" is. So I'm taking the revs up incrementally, not labouring the engine, not keeping at constant revs.

When I had a company car (my company) I drove it like I stole it from day 1 (my record was Southampton to Liverpool 3hrs 20mins). It done 96000 miles in 3 years and it never missed a beat, only routine servicing and tyres. Used no oil between services. So who knows if "running in" is even required?
I'm planning on an oil change soon and sending the sample for analysis, just to see what is actually in the oil after 1200 odd miles if anything at all..
