Hi all,

An opportunity presents itself to own a beautiful veloce, in my never ending quest to replace my Z4.

Has anyone had any experience with this car? I know the horror stories from alfa from the past but online seems to show that these are fairly reliable in this guise?

Work colleague has had an 18 plate for about 4 years now.

Its had a battery, and some other part that put the EML on once (can t remember what it was, some kind of solenoid or something) otherwise its been fine.

Alarm likes to go off for a laugh though from time to time.

I think the sensitivity can be adjusted by a dealer.

I bought a Giulia (but not Veloce) a couple of weeks ago and mine seems ok so far. I also stuck a new battery in, because stop / start didn't work (even though I turn it off anyway).

My reversing camera occasionally says unavailable which I'm pretty sure is a wire in the boot (wiring attaches to the hinge) but my friends BMW has had a similar problem so that's not just an Alfa thing

They're pretty robust, they're a bit battery (what modern car isn't) sensitive apart from that I couldn't think of a reason not to buy one.

My experience of Alfa’s for 20 years is that they’ve been totally reliable.

I had a 2018 car for 2 years from new. Decent to drive but flakey build quality and lots of niggles. Left me stranded once at 3 months old due to the battery draining itself over 8 days for no apparent reason.

IF your Z4 is a 6 cylinder, make sure you take the Alfa for a good, long test drive before making the jump - the Veloce’s engine is a little asthmatic at the higher end of the rev range and it also returns poor fuel economy for a 2.0 4 pot. I wouldn’t want to go from a BMW straight 6 to that. Service intervals are a bit extreme for such a humdrum engine too. The ZF gearbox is fantastic though.

Had a lovely dark blue metallic with tan Veloce.

As others have said, they are very battery sensitive. Many gremlins are just the battery getting old.

Turbo oil and water feed o rings should have been replaced under a recall. If not, fairly easy fix.

Some bits of trim can he brittle but overall, a lovely car. I did 30,000 in mine in a year and had no issues

Yep, proven to be very reliable. Didn't own mine long, but spent enough time in forums to see that there was little to be concerned about.
95% of the issues seem to be battery related, so keep it in good health.

Worthwhile trying to got 2019 model if you can, they introduced some useful revisions (although not sure how much of this is QV related, or across the Giulia range) including car play, split rear seats (that may have been 2018), etc amongst others.

Oh, and worthwhile investigating in the radar blocker. £250 - Giulias and Stelvios are very easily stolen via the front radar port, but this fix is easy to install and stops it completely. Don't bother with the metal plate versions.
