I am going for super Horse-Power by uprating from 1300 crossflow to a 1600cc crosflow from a Cortina 1600E.
Will this engine simply bolt onto the 1300 gearbox? (I will have to swap sumps to clear the cross-member) or will I have to use the Cortina box? Any thoughts.

You could use the 1300 box but if available you may as well fit the 1600 box from the Cortina.

Yes you can use the 1300 box on the back of a 1600 engine but don't expect first gear to last long if you welly it off the line much. The gears won't break but the selectors get unhappy and jam.

You'll need to swap the sump for a rear pan along with a dipstick and tube to match. The oil pick-up pipe in the sump has to be swapped as well. The old dipstick hole in the timing chain cover can be blanked off.

Yes I've done it.

A better gearbox is the 4 speed from the Cortina as TechSec says. You'll need a shorter prop.

If tempted by a 5spd Sierra box, try to see one out of the car first and try to lift it. They are appreciably heavier, by at least 12 kg if not 15. Same length prop as the 4 spd but with a different yoke. You'll need the Taunus clutch plate and a reworked engine/gbox tin plate (easy with an angle grinder).

Yes I've done it.

Cheers
