NHS wait time for inguinal hernia

I have one and note that my medical cover excludes repair of it. Even if it did not, my excess is over 50% of the cost of one.
I am not in much pain with it and, oddly, the symptoms are reducing. So I may wait for the NHS.... might.
Has anyone had an inguinal hernia repair on the NHS lately, and if so what was the wait? I want a laparoscopic repair.

I had an inguinal hernia fixed last year privately. I was in and out in about a month or so from first meeting the consultant. When I first met him I asked how long to get done on the NHS and he said what you've been told, a few weeks. He was a little more cagey about how long to see him for the initial consultation.I ve had a two GP visits and an ultrasound. No consultation with a surgeon.

This one is less uncomfortable by the day. In part probably because I’ve got rid of the cough that seemed to bring it on.
I COULD wait and get the NHS to do it, if it stays like this.

Contact local private hospitals as many will have NHS contracts for simple procedures such as hernias.
They are keen to fulfill contracts too as they are a reliable and consistent income

I've a private consultation on Tuesday, which I had intended to cancel pending advice from NHS ref lead-time. Perhaps I should go ahead.
OK so the answer to my question seems to be:
They are booking the beginning of November for the initial consultation. They didn't want to guess the lead time to the op, after that. However, I was incorrectly put through to a department that does hernias alongside liver cancer ops and the person I spoke to said that a year was not uncommon.
It looks like I will be paying, then. That's the thick end of £5k it would appear.

My partner has a hiatus hernia. Id avoid the NHS like the plaque. She has had symptoms since November 2023. Throwing up after eating (also has Gerd which is made worse by the hernia). I am not in much pain with it and, oddly, the symptoms are reducing. So I may wait for the NHS.... might.

Been off work since November 2023 (shes a carer and cant lift and work get funny when sick in case its a bug).
In constant pain.
Weve had two trips to A&E from blood her jn sick. Just given some paracetamol after nine hours.
Got admitted the next time but just given morphine.
Phoned admissions to find out how long the waiting list is...this was a couple of weeks ago and told it was about half way after seven months (only got on the waiting list in January due to f
k ups by doctors). Explained that the symptoms have got worse and doubled over in pain and they had an appointment next week...
We have since taken out private medical insurance (aware it wont cover this for a few years).
If you have the chance to go private, even if you to pay extra i would.

Annoyingly, BUPA added hernia as n exclusion to our policy after I had a hernia the other side.

I would question that. Why was hernia added as it is routine private medical claim and they don’t usually add an exclusion for something you’ve claimed for. I’ve had left and right done both privately and scheduled within a couple of weeks or so.I don't think I have a choice.
