Hi All,

So I thought I'd dip my toe into the world of Aston ownership and bought myself a little project car.

It's an '06 plate AM04/1xxxx (Cologne) engine with 40k on the clock. However, for the past 10yrs it has done very little mileage so it has one or two issues that require attention.

Firstly, it needs a damn good service... All fluids, filters, etc. It also needs a new set of boots & wiper blades. That's the easy bit. biggrin

The niggles I'm gonna need some help/pointers with are:
  • Rear qtr window - Doesn't come up. I'm just about to pull the panels off to investigate but any pointers would be useful.
  • "Alarm System Service Required" - After doing a bit of reading, it sounds like the battery in the alarm sounder unit has expired. Is it the same unit & location as the unit used in the V8V? That'll be next on the list, to pull it out and have a look.
  • Alarm fob & key - At the moment, the fob isn't working, so I'm assuming it's related to the above for now. However, the car only came with 1x set, so any pointers on getting another set made up?
I'm sure other things will turn up while being serviced but that's the "Starter for 10", so any help/pointers would be useful.

Cheers,

M

So the rear qtr window is working again. smile

Everything was live from the fuse, etc but the following link let me work out how to test the motor in situ:

https://db9s.com/aston-martin-db9-rear-window-cont...

Grounded the necessary to raise the window and hey-presto, it worked. However, whatever I did managed to un-tangle its knickers and it's all working again.

Now reassembled and onto the next thing... biggrin

Hehe... Ta for the info on the key.

Next question - Are there any recommended/specialist breakers out there for these things?

Same unit as a Range Rover Sport (and some other Range Rovers), can easily be found used and working on Ebay

Thank you bow

I was out for a drive in it today and by the end of it, the fob, alarm, etc... Had jumped back into life. It didn't stay alive for long but it's reassuring to see it all working. I've bought myself a new PCB mounted battery, for the sounder and will swap out if it doesn't come back to life.

...and for anyone having problems with their fuel filler release, I found this video useful as it showed me just how easy it was to access the solenoid.

So after a bit of research, I thought I'd take a punt on a bit of experimentation with some ebay salvage purchases. The upshot being that it appears the very late FoMoCo parts are interchangeable with the earlier Delphi/Volvo parts and the "Alarm System Service Required" is now gone.

FWIW - I ended up using one from a 3.0 Jag XE (EH22-19G229-BA)... From what I can work out it's that middle number which is the important bit (xxxx-19G229-xx), so just search for that and go for the latest one you can find. The one I bought was dated 2018 and cost me £12.99.

...so this is the car when bought:

Looks OK but when you start lifting the covers, you can see the various niggles and where someone else has had a crack at fixing things previously. Perished rubbers, tyres, wipers, etc. were the first things to get sorted, then a good service by a specialist.

The alarm sounder was in a sorry state when I removed it. Not only had the battery crapped itself but something had shorted and burnt out the circuitry too:

Initially I tried swapping out like-for-like but when that didn't work, I started to research part numbers:

...which led me to the more modern equivalent:

£12.99 later and the "Alarm Service" error has gone. smile

...so while on a roll, the delaminating rear view mirror was fixed by splashing out £19.95 on a brand new Peugeot part:

Thanks to Steve for the tips here:

https://aston1936.com/2018/02/04/how-to-remove-and...

My to-do list is still getting longer but I'm pleased with the progress so far.

On my 06 DB9 that rear view mirror was from a Volvo, while the side mirrors are the same as a S-Type Jag. I love owning a parts bin car!
