Izzy’s passing got us thinking about people who just lived long enough - he got to have his final spectacular farewell to Birmingham and then went just after. So far all we’ve got is the Queen, she kept going just long enough to see Boris booted out biggrin

Alternatively, anyone who went too soon and didn’t get to see something that would have been of genuine importance to them. Again, we’ve drawn a blank after Alfred Wegener who could have feasibly made it far enough to see his ideas taken seriously by the wider scientific community.

When David Lynch died recently it reminded me just how many of the original cast of Twin Peaks held on long enough to complete the 25-year-later sequel... Then shuffled off. It was quite a few of them. It really did seem they were just waiting to finish the story.

I suppose anyone who dies young doesn't get to see the things that others will see, as for famous people who but for tragedy or ill health would surely go on to greater things one can cite Stephen Hawking, Albert Camus, Alan Turing, Jacqueline du Pre, Sylvia Plath.

I have nothing remotely adequate to say but wanted to acknowledge your contribution. I hope you and your daughter are doing well.

My father, a week after being told he had leukaemia, I had a serious bike accident and spent 7 months in hospital.

He said he would see me come home, he did it by 4 days.

Yeah, sometimes it has been hard being dad and mum but both her and her younger brother have turned out OK and I’m very proud of both of them.

I think it's the other way around. She would still be with us today, but one meeting with Liz Truss and she thought "I'm too old to deal with this fking halfwit, I'm calling it a day".

Oh man thought I was having it tough, but don't know what to say.

It's only 4 months on Sunday since lost my wife, and still the tears flow. Just my daughter and I now though you have a larger, far larger, task.

We both promised her we would look after the other one. Just feel so inadequate when on a bad day all I can hear is "I so want my Mum for a hug."

I had a friend who had breast cancer which, although treated, eventually spread and was terminal but she was determined to have a party for her 25th wedding anniversary.

She survived another 6 months and had a lovely party and you would not have known she had terminal cancer. She died 2 weeks after in tremendous pain, begging to die.

OTOH we smile because my dad was a very practical man, who when time was up largely organised everything, and made sure that he departed just far enough in advance of Lockdown to get a proper funeral in, plus a party. Least that's what we think, bless him smile
