Seen on twitter breaking news Hulk Hogan (WWF/WCW etc) has died aged 71.

I only got into WWF around 98/99 so I only really know his run on return to WWE in 2002 as the NWO and onwards.

A bloke who seemed like he was "old" forever, wrestling at 30 looking like he was 60+

RIP.

Not a bad innings, considering he probably took some supplements to help his aesthetic

Gutted to hear this, he was one of those people who I grew up watching on TV in the late 80's and playing with the action figures.

He's probably had a good run in the circumstances but still very sad news

He did well to make it into his 70s considering how much juice he used and how his peers fared.

I thought a few weeks ago they said he wasn't doing well and it was dismissed as fake news.

He was definitely an icon for kids in the 80s.

That's a shame.

One of those iconic names where you grew up with them frown

A legend indeed, until he outed himself as another garden variety racist.

Ravishing Rick Rude and British Bulldog etc went in their 40's IIRC so 71 ain't bad going.

There a scrolling videos of wwe / wwf wrestlers from the 90s an 00s most dead. Ultimate warrior, legion of doom, British bull dog, randy savage etc all died young mostly heart issues which may have been due to large amounts of Test and Tren

Really sad to hear this. An absolute icon of my childhood. A larger than life character who transcended his business and became a household name.

RIP.

This comment made me realise that in the period I watched WWF in my early teens (86-88-ish), Hogan was 33-35 years old.

I recall thinking he was about 50 at that time and haven't really considered it further since.

Every so often I'll see some random thing on X that gets me looking into all the wrestlers that I remember from when I was a kid.

Anecdotal but a lot of the "they're suspiciously muscular" ones seem to be dead and a lot of the "they're a bit normal and chunky looking for an athlete" ones seem to be alive.

Hulk had a colourful life.

He was filmed having sex with the wife of radio personality "Bubba the Love Sponge" at Bubba's apartment. The video was "leaked" on Gawker so Hulk sued and won $140M. But, Gawker filed for bankruptcy and settled for $31M.

Peter Theil, founder of PayPal, funded Hulk's legal fees. Peter had been looking for an opportunity for revenge on Gawker after they had outed him as gay previously.

Lex Luger was a big guy and is still around although he looks rather frail these days.

I've said it before but Hulk features alot in the Andre the giant documentary, worth a watch.

RIP Hulk, Wrestlemania VI and the Royal Rumble from that year were vintage, what a time to be alive that was, trying to get a good signal on satellite with my dodgy filmnet box in the dark at 1am aged 13 and going to bed in the small hours.

I think he was 28 first time he faced Andre as "Hulk Hogan"

RIP Hulk.

I remember my grandad recording wrestlemania on sky for us as my dad wouldn't buy it.

I met British bulldog once in a signing session in Croydon Woolworths when I was about 7/8, it was a right con as you had to buy a video to get signed, Mum bless her took me and the brother down and we were at the front of the queue....then of course WW3 happens closer to the signing and it had to be canned, luckily they let us get a signing.
