Am travelling in October to visit my daughter at University in Ohio. Will be there for 1-2 weeks.

I'd like to hire a Dodge Challenger. Last time I tried to was with Alamo from BWI. They didn't have one and tried to palm me off with a premium BMW. I told them that BMWs were common in the UK and I wanted a US muscle car - finally ended up with a Form Mustang - the 4-pot not the V8, nice car but was a bit disappointed.

Has anyone got any suggestions of a sure fire guarantee of a Dodge Challenger hire - anywhere within 1-2 days drive from Athens, OH.

Would be OK with a Charger as well, but would prefer a Challenger.

Don’t go near budget, I booked a premium car from them, got fobbed off at the airport and I’m currently driving a Mitsubishi Outlander. Bunch of sharks!

I'll never use Budget again after booking a Chevvy Suburban with them exactly a year ago from JFK. Booked for 4:30pm, flying Norse, we arrived at 4:45 at the Budget office (1st to immigration and bags first off the belt), had to queue up and didn't get out of there until after 8pm. Never again anywhere in the world will I use Budget.

Have used Alamo twice in the USA - BWI and CMH - pre-checked in (or whatever it is called), walked straight through and picked the car and off we went.

OK we had a hiccup at BWI as there wasn't a Dodge Challenger, but there we just were able to bypass the queue.

BTW - never ever again with Budget

We got ours from Alamo last year booked through Costco. Picked it up at Dulles Washington DC and dropped it off at LAX 5k miles later. I think we were just lucky they had one available when we turned up.

We rented the same car group for our trip last month, pick up and drop off in Atlanta but the only American muscle they had was Mustangs. When we asked they said Challengers are really hard to come by now as they'd stopped making them.

Edit - I know this isn't near Ohio but the only place I've ever seen an abundance of American muscle and high end cars are the car hire places around Las Vegas Airport.

I always used Hertz. In my time I’ve booked and rented Challengers, Camaros, Mustangs (including Shelby Mustangs) and Corvettes (C6 & C7). Always got what I’ve booked (from the Adrenaline Collection). But I note of late the choice is getting smaller, and sometimes not available at all. These have always been from ‘popular’ airport locations LAX, SFO, MCO and LAS. Not sure what availability would be like at less popular or non-airport locations.

Ohio is the final destination so doesn't have to be an location in Ohio.

I've tried American Collection link with some east coast airports plus ORD but it isn't returning any muscle cars at all. I think I'm going to have to go with Alamo's Sporty Car again and hope that it will be a Challenger.
