Title says it all really.

See details here|http://www.alis-sa.com/gb/projet/index.php

Our friends near Alencon tell us that the 'Grand Opening' is due for the 21st October, with the first public use day on th 22nd. We are scheduled to be driving down that day so will report back...

Should make the Rouen-Alencon piece easily achievable in well under 1 hour.

So who's going to set a new record time from Calais - Le Mans?

I reckon the new route will be around 240-250 miles with all but Rouen town center being motorway.

Anyone for sub 2 hours???

Oh Dear GOD. Someone tell me this is not a road:

Quite the fear of bridges I have. The dubs might be seen cowering in the boot for this year

Seriously, it's not a road, is it?

Yup looks like it to me!!! If you look at some of the other pics you can see how they put it together - just like mechano (sp?) - it'll be fine - you can trust the French to get it right....!!!

Having looked the PDF file on that link we’ve still got to go through Rouen and all the joy that it brings.

None the less where shall we start the bidding for the time it will take to get from the tunnel to the first Le Mans junction? I’m thinking this is a 3 hour blast at best now

I feel the need to explain why it looks like I'm talking to myself (although I do it often...!) the "paris airport" post is by the other half, Happy Snapper - he's clearly giving himself away as using my PC again!! OI!!! Log me out first!!!

Ooo, That makes me feel better

My friends suggested we should go to see the new bridge in France, the one up in the clouds. A swift dead arm sorted that.

I'm not a happy camper.

drove the cloudy bridge this year, impressive but watching the helicopters from above was very wierd. The roads up to and after the bridge are very good especially at speed.

Would that be the Millau Viaduct you're talking about?

Just goes to show that the French view good roads as a necessity.

Bit different from our Government, who do their best to spend nothing on the roads, despite taxing the motorist about five times over!

They are also going to put in a ring-road around Rouen. Once that's in place you could drive the whole way from Calais to Le Mans by autoroute

What with objections, enquiries, cash delays about 2029.

Just rememberd Rouen is in France not UK so should be ready about 2010

Surely that would take all the fun out of it? I came back by some small b-roads last year and it was great fun. No Le Plods, just me and the odd tractor!!

Have done D-roads all the way most years, with a quick blast on the autoroutes just East of Rouen as they always seem clear of le plod.

A much longer journey, but very rewarding

Only in France does a road have its own website!

I will still use my other route- never seen a plod, and quicker then the (old) N138
