So I've had to slow my search for a V8V down as the 911 has developed a niggle that my specialist can't resolve until early Sept but as its with the convertible top, I can't sell or trade it until its fixed, its a pain but a first world problem.

I'm looking at the last gen V8V's so not new new, and its like the same 50 - 60 cars are hanging around, one car at AM Wilmslow has been there since Oct 24, its a silver Roadster with just c4k miles, amazed it's not been snapped up ...

Any thoughts ?

And is buying one now going mean taking a bath in 2-3 years when I look to change ? I have no issues with depreciation, but no one likes haemorrhaging money !!

When you say 'last gen', are you referring to the 2018 to 2023 model ?

I think we need an official series descriptor.

I always think in therms of: Fletham; NP (Newport Pagnell); VH (Gaydon), 2C (2nd Century); and now perhaps 2CII

In answer to your topic title, after the 2018 Vantage was introduced, sales numbers were much lower than for the previous model.
I don't know, but I suppose it is possible that demand for used models remains weak.

The 2005 to 2017 Vantage is now referred to as the VH Vantage, VH being a designation to do with the chassis.

I briefly looked at this one when I purchased mine earlier in the year. It has disappeared from sale but gone back up again at least twice.

I have not seen it in person but every picture I look at the panels look different shades. See below

There is also a grey one at an independent in Suffolk but this has had lots of exterior parts painted.

True to form, and as expected from such a knowledgable chap, LTP has the model timeline spot on. For the last three versions I’ve always preferred to call them VH (Gaydon) Vantage, new Vantage and finally for the latest current version, new new Vantage. New Vantage (2018-2023) was a polarising departure from AM tradition, with the MB engine and controversial aggressive styling, particularly at the front. A search in this small part of PH will reveal lots of threads and conjecture on the subject. I am quite surprised there are still several very low mileage, almost brand new in effect, “used” examples still available. To my eyes some of the panel gaps aren’t great, especially the side gills and swage lines, but at current prices the cars surely offer good value, especially when compared to the price of the latest model. They have more than enough power/performance for U.K. roads and handle really well. As for depreciation, well who knows, but I think over time this model has less detractors now than it did when it was first revealed at the end of 2017. BRM.

The "official series descriptor" is the 'platform' - or in more detail the 'vehicle programme code'.

Vantage MY05 - MY18: VH2xxx
Vantage MY18?/19 - MY23: AM6xxx
Vantage MY24 onwards: AM614 MCF (perhaps moved onwards now with MY25)

But I am under no illusion that on this forum the vast majority will continue with the "new new", "old new", "new old" etc.pp. Vantage nonsense forever. I mean, that would be like expecting from an "NP" guy to have a single clue what types of gearboxes AML has used in the recent 20 or so years.

Thank you for the clarification EL clap

Of course you’re right but I guess as long as we can distinguish which model is being discussed, that’s the main thing. The less said about the recent Vanquish gearbox post the better. wink

Thank you.

Is VH 1 the NP Vanquish?

You appear to be looking to go from a convertible 911 to a (2018-2024) Vantage AM6 Roadster.

As such there are certainly not 50-60 cars available - currently on here there are just 8 for sale.

Additionally there are 2 F1 Edition Roadsters which, in my opinion, would only be a sensible look for a Roadster with the optional rear wing delete - of which I don t recall seeing one.

As mentioned above, at the £93-£120k price point compared to the newly launched Roadster, these cars represent very good value, and the MB sourced engine and electrics makes them pretty reliable. As an Aston I would suggest that the depreciation is the least of the core models - no doubt aided by it being the cheapest model in the range.

The only issues I'm aware of are door modules (nothing new there), coil packs (new version has twin O-ring seals), and washer bottles that decide to split.

With the current state of the UK roads the power output and torque are more than adequate, but if you feel the need to throw money at more power David Appleby Engineering will be pleased to assist.

Your main problem will be in finding a spec. that you like - there are quite a few grey ones out there.

I was lucky to find a Minotaur Green one with the duotone interior, Apple CarPlay, and 16-way Sports+ seats which, on the standard size 20" wheels (unlike the F1 Edition) makes it a supremely comfortable GT car that gives a real sense of occasion at each drive. Just don t compare it to a 911 - it doesn t sound like it but comparing apples to pears is a fruitless exercise.

Having gone from a 991.2 C2S Cab to Vantage Roadster (via a wobbly M4 Cab) I think you'd be pleased with the ride & power of the Vantage. It's a simpler car but still has enough kit to make it an every day usable option. I don't regret moving - time will tell how much I'll lose should I trade it in - but I know the heady post covid days of appreciation are gone!

in fairness I hadn't looked as closely as that, also AM West London are also listing this car but for 3k more than Wilmslow.

Hi

yes and no, my ideal car is a roadster but I've been watching the complete market for this generation and it appears very few are moving, saying that, AM Pangbourne put a lovely looking one up late last week and as I was passing today the wife and I popped in as she hasnt had a good look at one ands it's already sold.
