How do people reduce the number of spiders going into the garage? Every time I go in there are new webs and more spiders, and as someone who has a phobia of them, I want to try and reduce the numbers of them.

The garage is a double with 2 up and over doors and a side door. There is some plant growing up the back and side.

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

I have some spider killer in a pressure sprayer. Just give the corners and crevices a dose of liquid death every now and again and it’s spider free

Conkers, I use conkers in my garage and wooden storage box. Didn't manage to change them last year and guess what I now have spiders in my garage.

All the old wives tales are just that. Conkers, lemon, etc.

Had a garage built about 15 years ago - sectional garage door, double glazed window and side door. Concrete slab sealed and insulated flooring laid. Still absolutely full of spiders. As mentioned you might plasterboard it and heat it which could help.

My advice would be to join a FB group like UK Spider Identification and learn about them. I'm not a fan of spiders in general but I am more relaxed around them more as I know that no UK spider is medically significant. They are great at keeping down pests as well.

I have a Sealey garage vac, not only is it the best thing ever (it does suck), it'll suck up all the spiders!

Judging by my house, spiders absolutely hate plasterboard and central heating.

Maybe a old wives tale or whatever but peppermint.

I've got a PIR alarm sensor in my garage, which was always set off in the middle of the night by a spider walking across it.

Shoved a peppermint wax melt behind the sensor and they stopped walking over it.
Rubbed some of the melts around the door frames as well and noticed a decrease in the little critters, although does need a top up every so often.

There's only one kind of spider I really don't like, and that's Pholcus. They get swiftly flattened with a small piece of MDF kept specially for the purpose, though there are plenty tucked away I don't see. They do however eat all other kinds of spider, so there are no other kinds of spider in my garage.

It would be a good opportunity to work on that phobia.

Killing spiders seems dumb to me. Fine to dissuade them if you can.

Reduce surface area. As someone else said, boarding the walls and ceilings is a big win instantly. But the more full the garage is the more homes for spiders there are.

But I've used this stuff for years and it works a treat:

I use it in the house to spray the corners and edges of every room each quarter and it keeps the spiders, clothes moths, silverfish etc at bay. Living next to fields we have a lot of things trying to set up home. I also spray thresholds more regularly.

I've been using it in the garage and shed in the same manner and it has kept the spiders at bay.

For a quick fix, I'd recommend sticking a mask on and spraying this stuff in all the nooks where spiders like to set up and across any thresholds and give it a few months and you'll notice a dramatic difference.

Seal and paint all the walls white. Put down proper flooring, and clean it regularly. Plenty of lighting helps too.

Our previous house had a large oak triple garage. As a bit of an arachnophobe I just accepted the fact that I would never get rid of them all, and kind of made peace with it. They did their thing, I did mine.
