What do you guys think of this A5?

Had my first car (2017 ford fiesta) for over 3 years now. getting bored of it and fancy a change and an upgrade. i really like audi sportbacks and sedans, so with my 10k budget ive narrowed it down to an A4 or an A5. i like the exterior of A3's but hate the interiors so an A3 is a no go for me

i really like the look of these cars. Anything after 2012 im fine with, dont want something with really high mileage either. I like that this A5 is automatic, I drive all day at work and honestly get bored shifting a lot of the time in my own car after work lol. As I said its gonna be my daily, I dont drive absolute miles, most days I make the same 20 mile round trip, never do more than that in a day unless im travelling somewhere.

not looking for something thats crazy fast, as long as it has a decent kick to it, nothing major just a bit faster than a fiesta lol, slow af. And looking for something decent on mileage, majority of my trips are up and down a dual carriageway/A road so as long as its quite efficient with fuel. Thats the one thing I love about my fiesta, its very effecient on fuel with me basically just taking it up and down dual carriageways.

so yeah if any of you guys can let me know what you think of this A5 or if you have any suggestions im open to them, but i am pretty set on an audi, love the interiors and exteriors of them

A5 coupe has very limited rear headroom. A5 sport back has some headroom, but not a lot as the rear doors slant so much. A4 is far more conventional as you'd expect. Oddly the A5 cab has more headroom than the coupe, as the roof is angled and thinner because of how it folds.

2012 ISH The dash is somewhat dated, but curvy. Sat nav is like a Gameboy where fitted, multitronic gearbox called multi chronic for good reason. Comfy seats.

The Mercs of this era have also dated dashboards, imo, more boxy than curvy. Seats are different.

You should get to a smallish dealer for things like this, to at least sit in some to try.

A5 is okay but I'd be buying the best E Coupe 10k can buy:
Appreciate the suggestions, they look brilliant value for 10k. Gonna be honest though, I'm not a fan of mercedes interiors across the board, even new ones. I'm really not a fan of the old ones, personally think they look terrible

Thanks for the heads up regarding the headroom etc. In terms of the dash being outdated, I do agree but I still ike these old 2012 dashes, I dont think they look as outdated as they actually are, I think they still look smart, and as far as the screen/sat nav goes it doesnt bother me. I always listen to my own playlists in the car so never listen to the radio, and I'm used to using the maps on my phone anyway. You mentioned the mercs of that era, personally I think those merc dashes look more outdated than the audis

This is the route I went for my daily - 2.0 TDI A5 - picked up a 2014 plate 4yrs ago now and it's been fantastic. Does everything needed faultlessly.

I did fit a CarPlay integration that was android based but it was laggy and slow so removed it and sold it - and did without for a couple of years (which was fine as my car is Mmi 3G/High) but Ive recently fitted a new Linux based CarPlay system that overlays into the MOST etc. and its perfection now IMO

My car has just hit 103k and honestly I don't know what I would replace it with, which is why its the car I've owned the longest.

No problem it's always about buying the car that YOU want.

Thats good to hear mate thanks for that, I mentioned an A4 but I am leaning more towards the A5. Hows the speed on it? I'm not looking for something rapid but has it got a decent kick to it? Whats the fuel like on it as well, good MPG?

It’s certainly plenty quick enough - I’ve never once felt it needed more

I was running it to/from Essex and Norfolk from Newcastle weekly for work and it ll happily sit at license losing levels on mid30s mpg for the whole distance as it is at 65-70mph and low 50s mpg

It s a sport back I have and I used to have an A6 and S6 saloon and the space in the back seats is barely smaller - there s very little in it so I wouldn t be concerned about rear headroom at all tbh.

Wife has an A5 sport back (2013) - her son is about 6ft 3 now and still fits in the back fine.

I’ve not driven an A5 but have a mk3 TT and have had a mk3 Scirocco, both with versions of the 2.0TFSI - different engines but both excellent for performance and economy. Not sure when the later EA888 came into the A5 but I can easily get over 40mpg on a long run on a mix of roads, on motorways and DCs it’s nudging 50. The A5 is a heavier car but I’d be confident it would still deliver excellent economy and realistically on the road all the performance you need.
