The Gassing Station podcast is now on air

A PistonHeads podcast is long overdue. Better late than never, right?

In case you hadn’t noticed, we've been cramming PistonHeads with as many newfangled features as possible of late. A couple of years back, we introduced auctions as another way to buy your dream car (or sell the one you already have to its next owner). We’ve been making our events bigger and better to give you more excuses (as if they were needed) to jump in your pride and joy and show it off to like-minded people. Now, we’ve added another string to add to our bow, and it’s one we should have done a long time ago. Folks, PH is doing a podcast, and it’s called The Gassing Station powered by Michelin.

Let’s not beat around the bush: the car world isn’t exactly short of podcasts right now. Our friends at Smith and Sniff have been at the sharp end of the charts for yonks, and they’re surrounded by some seriously big names that have been in the game a heck of a long time. We therefore didn’t want to make ‘just another car podcast’. Oh no. We wanted to make something that felt (or sounded?) like a proper PistonHeads podcast, one that brings all things PH into an hour’s worth of car chat.

The name, ‘The Gassing Station’, should be a bit of a giveaway as to what we’re up to. Each week, we’ll trawl through the forums for the topics that have got everybody talking. We’ll kick things off with something current, either a news story or a review, going through your responses before offering up our own, unless we get completely sidetracked and get stuck down a tangent cul-de-sac. When that happens, we’ll move on to some buying queries, taking topics from the buying advice forum and offering up our picks from the auctions or classifieds that fit the criteria. To end, we’ll find a topic that’s a bit more off the beaten path, whether that be the best cars for tip runs, advice for supercar parking - or something completely unrelated like how to organise a potting shed. The possibilities really are endless.

As for the hosts, we’ve got our own Cam Tait in one seat, with long-time PistonHeads contributor, John Howell, sat in the other. And in the not-too-distant future, this unlikely pairing will be joined by a guest (and we’ve got some really special ones lined up), so watch this space. Or, you know, subscribe to The Gassing Station on your podcast platform of choice (or watch on our YouTube channel) to stay up to date with all the latest episodes. We can’t wait to share more, but for now, sink your teeth into an hour of Cam and John bickering. You should feel right at home.

I hope John Howell is as erudite in the podcast as he is in his articles. I’ll give it a listen.

ETA - listened today. A bit long and rambling, but not bad for a first try.
Cam's last sentence and John's reaction at the end was funny... not sure if Cam was innocent or not?

Listened to a bit of it, best described as inane drivel.

I'm out.

Tried the first 10 minutes and will try the rest when I have more time. Don t listen to podcasts but happy to try this.

Both voices are clear and pleasant which is a good start.

Lots of pod competition out there PH so the content will have to remain consistently good to get the clicks. Your also a bit late to the party as well which isn't all bad because you can see who's getting the hits and follow the clues to success which incidentally doesn't often feature a balanced amount of EV with ICE getting the talk time and that always gets my clicks.

I listen to a lot of podcasts as I'm pottering around the garden. Enjoyed this one and will subscribe. It was a nice easy listen and the idea of it being an extension of the forum seems to be a good angle. It can take the place of Smith n sniff which I dropped after JS lost his credibility for me with the paid for Chinese EV video.

Here's my suggestion if you want me to lend you my ears...........
Do the podcast in sections - that's common enough, just divide by topic - then provide it as a complete podcast AND as separate, shorter pieces with the topic in the heading.
Why? Well there's often an item I want to hear buried in a lengthy podcast and I can't be bothered to wade through it all to get to the bit I'm interested in.
Podcasters are the one media group that don't seem to have noticed modern media is in bite sized chucks for those of us (many of us) who have short attention spans or busy lives.
And there's another benefit: you get to place ads in more podcasts so you can make them all shorter so as not to try our patience further!

We've done just that! We kick off with a little update on what we've been up to, then it's on to the three topics: a story that's got people talking, a car buying challenge and an 'anything goes' category. It'll be easier to skip to each section once we bring some more sponsors onboard, but we've divided it up so you can skip to the bit you want to listen to.

1) Will the podcast be available on Podbean?

2) Will there be any teaspoon/stirring content?

Thank you.
