2019 On Vantage
Discussion
Ive been offered a nice 2019 Vantage 4.0 in a colour combo I like and with a full dealer history, with warranty and ok ish price.
Is there anything to watch out for?
I was looking at a prior model 4.7S but there are very few manual cars, fewer still of 67 plate or newer for cheaper road tax + the price gap for a late one is relatively small and Id hope the later car with its MB engine is more bombproof?
Thoughts? Guidance appreciated.
- leaking transmission cooler cover (dripping from the rear diffusor)
- squaking brakes (change to porterfield pads)
- water entry coil covers (replaceing with optimized newer AMG parts)
In my opinion, leaking transmission cooler cover, this is a design flaw. An aluminum body with a seal and then a plastic cover. Thermal stress due to expansion and contraction of the seal with different materials.

Given the choice of the two, I would plump for the 2019 Vantage, its a slightly bigger car, more room, just as good to look at (but took me some time to see this), drives beautifully, is effortlessly as fast as you want it to be. I would recommend driving them back to back if you can to get a feel for how much better they are than the VH platform cars, thats not to say the older cars are bad by any means, I had one and loved it for 4.5 years. My 2019 car also had the leak from the diff cover, its the coolant rather than the diff oil that leaks and as has been said before, I agree it's a design fault. Apparently, mine had been done before I owned it and again in my ownership but this was covered by warranty. No doubt it could happen again.
Other than that ... 34 mpg on a motorway run compared to 21 mpg in a 2009 4.3 V8. The sat nav may seem old MB tech but it gives you updated traffic avoidance etc. so is perfectly usable in every day use. The Premium Audio is OK, not what I would call premium but others may see this differently, it's acceptable though. The more modern car rides better in my opinion which is important given the condition of our roads, it handles pot holes rather well given the type of car it is.
Road tax much cheaper, insurance on par with what I paid on the VH car ... a little higher but no deal breaker.
Go drive them and see how you feel.
