My lovely AMD XP 3400 is starting to die. Not sure why, but it was cheap 2 years ago, and methinks I'm now paying the price.

She needs more memory and a faster Gfx card anyway, so bollocks to it, I'll convert her to a support box of some form and replace her.

So, while I'd like an Alienware machine, I refuse to spend that sort of money.

Minimum specs required are along the lines of;

AMD3500 64bit (venice core) minimum. I'd like a X2 dual core though.
Decent Mobo.
At least a gig of fast memory
Single SLI ready 256mb 6600
On board 5.1/6.1 sound is fine
Obviously all the usual connectors
Decent case is an advantage
No need for a screen/keyboard etc etc.

I'm assuming if I bought a box without an OS, I wouldn't have significant problems tracking down a legal copy of XP Home/Pro for less than MS want for it........

These look pretty good (first one needs a bigger drive)

Try Micro Direct, they'll do all the kit you want cheap and supply OEM versions of Windows (you'll get no back up from MS though).
