Audi TT 8N 3.2 Quattro
Discussion
Morning all,
The more regular readers of the forums will know this car already as I purchased it off of PH luminary, RS Grant (link to his readers car post https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... )
We had talked back and forth for a while about buying it, mainly Grant telling me how good I'd look in another TT
after I got shot of my 8N 225 Bam during the dark days of lockdown. Cue some marketplace trawling on Sunday, not having much luck when my partner suggested going to see the TT, safe to say I didn't need much convincing.
It's in need of some bodywork being sorted, front wings, sills and a dent on the roof. However besides that, it's come up OK after a quick polish! It'll be getting a full service just for peace of mind, however besides an ABS error blaring on the dash, it drove perfect after collecting it. The colour combo between the merlin purple & white/cream(?) interior is just the best, and was one of the biggest selling points for me.
I'll try to keep this post updated when I've done the work to the car, for now anyway here are some photos of the car as it stands.

A lunch break spent putting a list together of what needs done...
Visual -
Visual -
- Sills
- Front wings
- Wheels powder coated (Thinking of staying silver, as it suits the purple nicely)
- Dent in roof (most likely a next year job when funds allow)
- Full detail & ceramic coat
- ABS Fault
- EML showing on dash
- Fuel level on dash cluster only showing between 3/4 & full.
- New tyres all round, current ones are 6 years old.
- Squeak on full lock (Must be a common thing, my other 8N done this too)
- Service
YES!
Another 3.2 TT on the books.

Love the color as well.

New 40amp fuse fitted, ordered on Friday afternoon, delivered via FedEx on Saturday morning!
TT is on the ramp just now, time to sort this ABS issue.
This being the oldest car I have owned (and very much a learning experience) my stomach sank when it was raised up and revealed the rust, however a quick reminder that this car is older than our apprentice by 3 years and were back on track with getting it serviced.

New ABS module required... £65.00 w/ eBay assured fit. Should be arriving tomorrow, will get it fitted and report back (with hopefully no screaming ABS fault on the dashboard!)
More things to add to the list as well -
More things to add to the list as well -
- OSF & NSF wishbone rear bush
- Strip & clean front brakes as there binding slightly
- OSF outer CV boot
- OSR & NSR trailing arm front bush
Ladies & gents, we have sorted the electrical and mechanical issues! (For now…) Steering angle sensor still to be sorted through VCDS but that also gives me an excuse to grab a coffee with my friend at the same time.
Taxed and insured, wheel alignment tomorrow morning then a run up the Scottish glens.

All in all it required:
- New battery
- CV boot
- 2 rear bushes
- 2 front bushes
- Front brakes stripped and cleaned
- ABS module
- 4 Tyres
Alignment done on Saturday morning, weather looked promising for Sunday all day... Time to see how the 3.2 felt against our old 1.8t.
Safe to say it was absolutely fantastic! Perfect back road/glen side cruiser with enough grunt to get round the campervans and tourists pootling up the hillsides.
I'd also forgot what it's like to have a car that people either give you the "one finger off of the steering wheel" wave, or just want to come over and speak about. I know it's not a treasured classic or some multi-million pound super car, but it's genuinely lovely to have this feeling again.
Driving up towards Glen Shee, we ended up following an Audi 80 cab, along with a TT cab in front.

Some shots from the top of Cairn O' Mount, always a stopping point to stretch the legs and empty the dog.

With the first long drive under the belt in our ownership complete, it didn't skip a beat the entire time. Squeaky brakes half way through, but I'm putting that down to it being 27 degrees along with some spirited driving. One thing my ever devoted Mrs has reminded me of, that this is our car, and not just mine, as she loves driving it too I'm going to have to learn to share my toys!
Took it along to a local body shop that we use at work...£4000 was the quote I left with for sorting the wings are sills. Whole side of the car would require painting to ensure a good blend, I know little in regards to body work and painting, however I can imagine if the wings and sills were brand new and painted, they'd stick out like a sore thumb.
I left the body shop with my heart wanting to slide clean out of my most southernly orophus. However, after looking on eBay I found a MP TT breaking for parts, sadly the wings had been bought, however the two sill covers are now heading there way to me.
According the eBay seller, the gentleman who purchased the wings and front bumper is painting them black...
£320 for both, I'll take that any day!

I think getting the wheels tidied up is next, then fitting the sill covers when they arrive. After that the bank account will need a rest until next year.
