Looking at getting Mrs Keo a Yaris hybrid. The newest shape. Has anyone got one and what do they think?

Just want a cheap to run and reliable car for the Mrs. They look quite cool especially in GR sport spec. Although she also likes the orange launch editions. They seam to be a little cheaper. But am I better getting a newer car?

Was looking at spending about £15k ish but can go more for “better” value. Dont want to spend £30k on a new one and take the depreciation hit. Although she will probably run it into the ground and it will only be fit for the scrap yard once she’s finished biggrin

She is coming from a Citroen C1 she loves it as it’s cheap and to run. Although it’s getting on now and she fancies something a little bigger. So looks like a Yaris could be a good option.

Thanks

We test drove a new Yaris hybrid a few years ago, but it was inferior in every way to a new Jazz, so we bought the Honda.

The Jazz is much more refined, nicer interior (better quality materials) and more spacious. I would definitely recommend taking a look at them before you decide.

A lot of hype for a tinny little car. I have a friend who looked at one, amongst various other cars, but went for an electric Vaux Corsa in the end. Less than £10k for a 22 plate with 23,000 miles. If you had £15k you could buy a newer/lower mileage one or just spend £10k and keep the rest for more sensible things like hookers and coke.

We've previously owned one.

Economical, reliable. Dull as ditchwater.

I had one as a courtesy car for a weekend. Absolutely loved it to the point I was about to pull the trigger and buy one. They come well specced and very economical. Also the Toyota 10 year/ 100k miles warranty is a bonus (as long as car is serviced within Toyota network).

Why not? Has she tried one? It may be a genuine reason or perhaps believing the anti EV press.

Notice this a lot on here people say they don’t want electric and then people start asking why they don’t want one.

She just doesn’t want one her choice.

Yaris Cross seems to be more prevalent on the roads; maybe a bigger pool of used ones to choose from?

Notice even heard of the Yaris cross but just looking at them I don’t think it will be for her.

Real world experience of the Yaris being cheap to run and reliable and that’s what we are after really thank you. The Mrs isn’t a “petrol head” or an “electric head” biggrin

I’m currently working abroad so when I get home we can go look at some/ buy one.

Thanks for the help everyone

Mechanically and reliability wise they are solid and Toyota has been on the Hybrid game for long time.
Best thing is to test drive one and if the wife likes it, then it should be a good choice.

The hype is around the GR-Four Yaris, which is a totally different car altogether and not what the OP is asking about.

My elderly mother (she's 90 years old now) has had one of these from new in 2015, so ten years, obviously. She just wanted something reliable, easy to drive and park, reasonably practical and economical. The Yaris hybrid is all of those things. Of course, she's not a petrolhead so things like performance and handling are unimportant. But for something that just works and fulfils a function that car has been perfect.

To conclude this, we have bought a launch edition. She is having it delivered as it is the other side of the country and I am still abroad so can’t take her.

Looks nice in pictures, mrs is excited so hopefully it’s a win win all round.
