A bit of a niche question, but I'm trying to understand which 991 cars have the preparation for roof transportation. On the 992 I believe that the preparation had to be selected as an option. That still seems to be the case with the 992.2.

Does anyone know what the situation is with the 991.1 and 991.2? Did that also have to be selected as an option? I've heard that potentially sunroof equipped cars had it included as standard, but can't find confirmation

It's a bit frustrating that as a potential used buyer I am very limited in car choice if I want to carry a bike on the roof or add a roof box. I'd prefer roof bars to the seasucker approach.

991.1 and 991.2: The roof transportation system, including the mounting points, was not a standard feature on all 991 Coupé models. It had to be selected as a factory-fitted option.

Sunroofs and Roof Transportation. For 991 models (and also 992s up to production week 24/21), the roof transportation preparation was included as standard in conjunction with the electric slide/tilt sunroof or electric slide/tilt glass sunroof (option code 3FD/3FE). Therefore, if a 991 has a sunroof, it should also have the necessary preparation for the roof transport system.

Is this definitely right? I have a 991.2 coupe with no sunroof that has the mounting points as standard and to which I fit roof bars. I can’t comment on sunroof cars with any confidence but wouldn’t they be less likely to have roof mounts, due to the complexities of the sliding roof?

'should' not 'will' so yes definitely worth further validation from anyone reading the thread.

The RTS was a tick box option when I ordered my 991.2 and also my 992.1. Both had sunroofs and I seem to remember that they were no/low cost options.

The RTS does work very well and I regularly use it to carry my road bikes. Also it’s super quick to add / remove bars.

Bit of a thread hijack, but what bars, if any, or other systems, have folks been able to use if they have a car without the prep?

Considering getting back into Porsche ownership but would want to be able to occasionally put bike or roof box on the car, and the cars I've liked the look of so far do not have this option.... TIA

My 991.2 GTS has the rubber grooves on the roof and no sun roof. Looking at it someone had roof bars on it at some point as they're ever so slightly folded in where I assume they clip to the structure underneath.

I'll take a photo of the option sticker and you'll know if it's an option or not. I'd assume non-roof ones don't have the rubber grooves but could be wrong.
