Rolex Perpetual

HI,

Has any got an Oyster Perpetual watch? Thinking of getting one this is the first “high end” watch I am thinking of getting, currently my most expensive watch I have is a Tag Heur F1 watch.

Any guidance very much appreciated.

There’s a wide range of ages models sizes and dial colours and styles so best narrow down what you prefer. I’m not a huge fan as I think they are a bit bland but can see the appeal.
Personally I’d avoid the date/cyclops models it really disrupts the look.

I went to the Rolex shop in Puerto Banus today (we are on holiday) & they said they couldn’t sell me one!!!

Is there typically a waiting list to get one new?

I'm very pleased with it.

I’d advise you google the question as there are millions of pages on this issue.

I just thought it might be useful to get first hand experience of buying one, as I am a newbie with Rolex

There are waiting lists for all Rolex's these days, you need to go into your local authorised dealer, tell them exactly which one you want and ask them to add you to the list.

Luckily for you the one you want isn't a highly sought after piece so it should be fairly quick.

I was on 'the list' for 4 years before giving up. Actually, I am still on that list, out of curiosity to see if I will ever get a call.

The 'overs' on this model are now fairly modest. I found an unworn one on eBay that was three weeks old and contacted the seller to negotiate. It was listed at £6150. He already had two other Rolexes and had bought this one to put in his safe. He'd recently had a less-than-expected insurance payout after a no-fault car accident and, under the circumstances, accepted my offer of exactly what he had paid for it (£5,550) for a quick sale.


I think there will be other sellers who will do something similar when approached by someone who has the money ready to go. The alternative is to do the whole Rolex 'list' palaver. Anecdotal evidence suggests the wait may now be a lot shorter than it once was, so it would certainly be worth expressing an interest.

I have one, mine is the purple with orange dots can’t remember if 39 or 41mm.

You say you have Tag’s and other watches, did you buy these from the same dealer or recently? If so then even if they don’t sell Rolex they can likely put you on a list for one.

70% of the time i buy watches from one guy in one shop. It doesn’t always sell the brand I am after but as they are part of a larger group he can almost always get what I want.

Apart from that they are good solid watches often overlooked but they have some really fun designs.

The green dial OPs (both light and dark) are more popular than most so the waiting time may be longer. Go to your local AD and see what they say. They may even have the odd OP or DJ available for immediate sale.

Yep will do, I’m on hols at the moment so emailed the two closest, I assume they don’t often reply but you never know.

I have one and I'm very fond of it. Nice classic looking watch and goes under the radar.

ETA: I bought mine from the grey market still stickered up and less than a week old. Wait times for mens watches at rolex are just a nonsense I could be doing without

Booked in on Friday to see some watches at Rolex Guildford, so lets see if I can get on the list :-)

The Tag was from my wife as a birthday present, so no idea where she got it from, my other watches are not prestige, citizen, Sekonda, although I do have an interesting mechanical watch that a friend of mine bought the movement (ETA 2824/2 ) it’s a skeleton watch & I love it very much, here it is

If you have a read of the Rolex bubble thread you will get the idea of what it’s like to try and buy one from an Authorised Dealer (AD), I’d suggest just reading the latest 10 pages as there’s a lot of rubbish on there.

If you really want one have a look at what the grey market is selling them at.
