Purchased this at the beginning of July, now somewhere onboard the Neptune Barcelona en route to Southampton...due 2nd October.

It's a totally standard 2020 non-safety package car with 40k on clock, and will be SSS number three for my wife. Main reason for the import is she wanted another silver car, and it's not available in the UK in silver...the JDM cars are not afflicted by hybridisation that all EDM cars are from mid-2018 either. The non-safety package also means no lane assist or emergency braking function, which are also standard fit on EDM cars. We had a demo car from Suzuki for a long weekend and both found those functions horribly intrusive. The JDM car also has a heated drivers seat and retains the closer ratios of the ZC32S.

Current car...

...and the one that started it all.

They seem to have quite a following, and I'd much rather not have the nanny features either!

Roll on October.

They only weight 970kgs and will make 170ps/280Nm with just a map...so should be a fun little thing smile

An excellent choice, I have a UKDM version myself in blue. Those "aids" are a real pain in the backside though! Look forward to seeing what you do with the car.

Can confirm they are a fantastic car. I have a a hybrid one myself and to be honest it doesn’t deserve the stick it got from new. Yes it was stupidly expensive but second hand they are a good value proposition. I drove a non hybrid before I bought my hybrid and they both are punchier than the paper figures - I’m still yet to do a timed 0-60 with my Vbox but it’s definitely not a 9 second 0-60! The UK hybrid / JDM / AUDM series 2 cars from mid 2020 come with a few quality of life improvements like a digital speedo (useful!) , side blind spot sensors and rear cross traffic alert which although aren’t necessarily a deal breaker they’re nice to haves. At least being a JDM you can fit a decent stereo if you’re that way inclined as the stock unit is terrible (but an amp, upgraded speakers and sound deadening help massively on the UK / AUDM Bosch unit)

Few points of note:

- UKDM cars were only hybrid from mid 2020, pretty much all pre 70 plate cars are non hybrid with a few exceptions
- Lane keep assist can be turned off (and on my 2020 car it stays off after powering the car off)
- I will admit the auto emergency braking is naff (though I’ve only had one instance where it falsely kicked in in the 2 years I’ve had my car). The beeping if a car is within a mile of you in a traffic jam is irritating though and if I could disable it permanently I would!

It’s actually a shame that Suzuki won’t be doing a new Swift Sport, I don’t intend on selling mine unless I have to as it’s got under my skin. CTC Performance’s website should keep you occupied if you want to get any mods bought.

Thanks for the reply PerfectDark, and the corrections biggrin

I know you can turn all the safety gubbins off, but even better if it's just not fitted smile

I've been trying to find out the month of manufacture so, but no joy so far...I'll dig out a photo of the dash, and see if I can work out if it has the digital speedo or not. I suspect the latter.

Yeah CTC has lots of bling, it's not my car though so mods will be limited to springs, 16" light weight wheels, intercooler and map. I'll probably go for one of the Chinese Android head units, but the stereo it has fitted is a Pioneer after market so I'll see if I can make it work before spending needlessly.

Clocks look the same visually on the non hybrids - the only giveaway on hybrids is a little white battery light in the rev counter and the hybrid display on the central display, but if your car is post mid 2020 it will have the digital speedo. I’m not sure if it can be changed to MPH though (I can change mine to KMH but I don’t think the non UK cars have the ability.

I’d also recommend joining the Gruppe 33 Facebook group as there’s a wealth of knowledge on there.

Well it's approaching the Cape of Good Hope, which is nice.

Received electronic copies of all the import documentation today and its an October 2020 car, so should have all the later updates, which really is nice.

I have seen some potential wheels too, still a bit of time before I need to get them so I'll procrastinate a little longer before committing.

Getting close! Exciting, hope it's everything you want.

We still miss our old ZC32s in our household, sold last year. Great cars and I'm sure the 33 is no different!

Not long to go now!

I have to say I am quite intrigued by the gear ratios of the JDM models. Compared to the European ratios at 6000 rpm my calculations make it...

JDM 1st:29 2nd:51 3rd:70 4th:91 5th:115 6th:135
Euro 1st:29 2nd:53 3rd:82 4th:108 5th:128 6th:155

I may be way off with my workings but I think this is what it will roughly equate to, I guess you will be able to tell me soon if I am close.

While low down torque makes the wider spaced ratios easy to gain speed having a close ratio gear box will always appeal.

Have you made a decision on wheels yet?

Yup, due today sometime hopefullysmile

Happy to try your calcs out in the real world once I have the opportunitybiggrin

Wheels...well, I may put then on hold depending on the state of the tyres it arrives on...as I might divert those funds so I can buy a new eMTB hehe

I have decided to let someone else sort the IVA out though...so it's stay in Southampton will be longer than first anticipated, but less hassle for me.

Arrived, offloaded and duty/fees paid. Happy days smile

All ready for collect for collection for the IVA. Not sure on timescale for the test and registration at present, hopefully no more than a couple of weeks. You never 2know with the DVLA though!

IVA booked for 12th November...so a bit more than a couple of weeks hehe

Good news is that the JDM cars do have the rear fog as standard, so all that's required for the IVA is to covert the speedo to MPH.

At least that gives me time to sort out a couple of cosmetic issues on the blue one so it's ready to sell.
