Been invited on a stag do May next year, happy to go but can't be bothered for all the "LADS LADS LADS" drinking at 10am antics in the airport, so I'm taking the bike over.

Hotel is one of those on the street types in a quieter part of the city so no parking per se, though I could probably leave it out front on the pavement since that seems accepted.

If I wanted something a bit more secure, are there longer term car parks available, covered ideally.

Bike is a tidy but old Honda worth under £2k.

Appreciate any suggestions smile

Park it, lock it, put a cover on it. Enjoy your weekend

Yup. Park it on the pavement, lock it up, enjoy the trip. I did when I had a night in Amsterdam back in March. FireBlade was still there in the morning.

Most locals do have some form of lock on their bikes. My hotel was very near the opera house and the Rijksmuseum

Happy with that, it's not often I have to leave my bike out so feels a bit unnatural, but don't doubt that it will be fine. No problems when I took my Z1000SX to Bruges, been reading too many London horror stories perhaps.

Thanks for the input!

On the number of times I've gone there I saw bikes of every description left just about everywhere without issue - many without locks. A 2k Honda I can't see any issue with.

I normally park right outside the hotel entrance, never has any issues, I stick a disc lock on it 'just because'.

I normally stay at the NDSM part, so get the free ferry over to the main section of the city.

I've seen bikes parked all over the place, the only ones that get any trouble are close to the action/beer/idiots/canals..

By contrast many years ago, went to Assen for WSBK (Foggy era) and had night in Amsterdam on the way back, most of us locked our bikes together, some didn't.

Night on the lash, got back and a mates 916 had been nicked.

That's my personal experience and I've been since without any issues, but I'd be locking my bike to something.

You're going on a stag do but don't actually want to partake in the traditional stag do antics?

You sound like loads of fun to be around...

My suggestion is to chilax a bit, join in, let your hair down.

Or maybe just stay at home instead.

hehe

To add, a friend of mine left his bike locked and parked there overnight, in the morning it was gone never to be seen again.

This was 30 odd years ago mind but I don't suppose criminality has got any better.

Was there on the bike a couple of weeks ago however, stayed at the Radisson Blue hotel which had its own, ridiculously expensive parking. Something like £35 a night.....

Hopefully you'll have a better time than I did. The whole place is expensive (about £9 per crap beer) and seriously overrated in my opinion. I'll not be going back. Go to Germany instead - far better....

I've phoned the stag and told him since I won't enjoy the most important part of any holiday (hanging around the airport) I'm staying home.

Thanks for the wisdom Rubin, I'll treasure it.

Wise arse! biglaugh Flying sucks anyway, motorbikes are better.

Okay, so assuming I don't stay home..

Travelling from Bristol, tunnel probably (definitely) cheapest and easiest but could get a Ferry from Harwick. Anyone used this service before?

Something to change it up a bit appeals to me somewhat.

Bristol: ferry over to Le Havre from Portsmouth. Ride through Northern France and Belgium.

I had one of the best meals of my life at Sampurna on Singel. Cafe Hoppe on Spui is good for craft beer if you like that sort of thing. Also you have the Rijksmuseum, which is world class - so you can do some stuff before the stag do and you are taken to coffee shops, Irish bars and the sort of places I won't be looking up on the work laptop!

Did Harwich to the Hook earlier this year with a mate on a week's trip to Black Forest & Vosges. We got the Saturday 11pm, its less than an hour from home so works well for me. We got there about 9.45 & were in the bar by 10.15, couple of pints & bed to wake up to sailing past Rotterdam on the way in to the Hook, only took about 30mins to get the bikes off & through passport control. I'd use it again heading to that part of Europe.
