So, whilst writing up a small piece about the 10 cars i've been lucky enough to own over the last 10 years i realised i should really do a thread about the car that up until my purchase of a 981 GT4 i've been most "well known" for. This is a LONG 8 year story so far, so it's going to take me a few evenings to write it all out so please bare with.. it's a roller coaster !

My 2006 2.7 987 Cayman, affectionately just known as "The Cayman". And to keep you interested and me motivated to write this, heres the car in its current state a fully caged track car pictured here at its new second home.. Blyton park.

The beginning - 2018

Its late 2017 and i was doing insurance quotes for audi S1s,S3s and scirocco Rs as 19 year old me was fully into the stancey VAG scene and wanted to be "cool" one evening, bored and waiting for my friends to finish work to go to the pub i decided to do a quote on a 2.7 987 cayman, a cayman was always a dream car of mine as i'd grown up playing Need for speed games where the Cayman ( the S ) was THE car to cheat your way to winning basically everything and with the number £1900 coming up on my phone ( a whole £700 less than an S1 ) the deal was sealed.... the second i found the right car it was happening. Fast forward to Feb 2018 and the right car popped up on AT (Sorry !) a guards red, 2.7 with some nice options for £11,750 with 80k miles on it.

The car was at a tiny little dealership just outside Cardiff, which me, my dad and my then owned Audi A1 set off too hoping that this one was the right car.
It was, its in great condition for the mileage, had a fantastic history and much to 20 year old mes delight... a rowdy sounding stainless exhaust and an upgraded stereo with bluetooth.. I still remember the grin on my face when they cold started it in the dealer and the rumble it made like it was yesterday..

I still have a screenshot of the advert..

The drive home was fantastic, and the rest of the evening was filled doing what any self respecting 20 year old with a Porsche does.. driving around with my mates making noise. The night however, was not ideal as parked outside my flat a group of drunk people who for all intents and purpose were twice my age decided it would be great fun to run up the back of it and stand on the roof all in view of my living room, to which i could do nothing. They took photos and left, so somewhere out there is a photo of some largely overweight probably now completely bald chap stood on the roof of my car..... nice.
I was gutted, so much so that for a second i considered taking it back and trying to get my A1 back ( after fixing the dent in the roof of course ) but didn't as the next day i took it for a trip with some friends to a local car meet we used to go to and all was ok with the world...

Pictured below at the petrol station after getting washed, both the cars in that photo still existing in my group of friends 8 years later..

Literally 3 days later the whole country was ground to a halt by " the beast from the east" a freak snowstorm that left my newly purchased cayman undrivable

With the snow gone, the roof repaired and my bank account starting to recover i proceed to use the car for everything. From my daily commute to work, to my early days exploring the peak districts miles of empty tarmac, trips up and down the country to shows, visits to friends at Uni and literally everything inbetween.

" on the side of mam tor with 2 of my best mates cars at the time "

Back in 2014 me and my dad had been to the 24hr of Le Mans in his company Passat CC so thought it was only right to return in something abit more special, this time it was for the classic which marked the first time i'd ever driven abroad and the start of a series of photos at a random car wash near the euro tunnel that i carry on to this day..

Towards the end of the year i made the mistake of wanting to put the car on coilovers... a job i won't talk about as the car was out of action for a month due to a mixture of self inflicted problems and...... a cracked front subframe, it did look good though..

The car promptly emptied my bank account with a new front subframe. various suspension arms and a savage MOT bill and i drove it for the rest of the year fault free..

2019 - To be continued..
