Engine is currently being stripped down after finding swarf in the oil. Thankfully initial inspection isnt showing anything serious so now that its apart, what would owners recommend being done? Obviously im looking at crank seals, camshaft bushes etc but anything else? Is this a good time to do tophat liners or not?

Who's rebuilding it for you?
Always better to have a chat with the builder really, not worth cutting corners anywhere really if you have the chance to do it properly.

Liners can drop so rebuilders often fit top hat liners so they stay in place. Worth doing if the engine is already open but I don’t know how easy a job it is DiY.

Camshafts are often quoted as 50k mile lifespan.

Cheers. Thats probably the best and most sensible advice but i was just curious as to what others have done. Not long owned the car so everything is a journey right now. Not sure on engine builders. Theres a few choices near me but V8 developments is my favourite after speaking to him.

Thanks. Camshaft was done about 15k ago and has vernier timing gear fitted. Im now starting to realise that engine rebuilds arent a big thing in TVR world, just rather not go through this again if i dont have to.

Yes they are very well respected to be fair, won't be cheap but their engines are second to none.

scratchchin I'd research more closely, before deciding.

He's a bit of a marmite character for sure.
I personally had no issues with parts from them and have not read too many horror stories but it would be nice for people to elaborate slightly on their opinions and not just leave people guessing.

Agreed. He certainly seemed a straight up, no BS sort of guy. But we talked about the internet 'reviewers' and like most businesses, he has to be very vigilant and careful.

Its difficult tbh. I spoke to Python Racing and he was very approachable. But so was Matt Smith who was very helpful but i could tell he was extremely busy.

Matt Smith would be an extremely good choice, probably worth the wait.

Again with the cryptic posts. If youre trying to give useful advice rather than just scratch a personal vendetta, then maybe explain?

Hey, no vendetta here, I know where I wouldn't go and that's as much as is allowed here. But, with that attitude I'll withdraw any help. Good luck.

No attitude but definitely a bit of frustration. If youve had a bad experience then fine, no company is perfect but youre not exactly offering anything otherwise. If you have serious concerns then perhaps DM me?

Macdeb is correct if you read the ph requirements, posts that denigrate suppliers or others are off limits. if you had been on here for some time you would know that there is a history of disputes with traders getting out of hand resulting in posters eventually being banned.
Remember there are two sides to every dispute so it is unfair to post derogatory comments unless the trader is in a position to reply.

Of which i have no problem with and perfectly understand. The flip side, as seen here, is that posters can make insinuating remarks without any context or proof. Neither case is helpful. Im just about to start an engine rebuild with initial estimates of £3k so any help at this point would be great and i dont consider one liners that helpful.

But as i posted, if Macdeb wishes to pass on his experience via DM, then im all ears and would certainly appreciate 'genuine' info from the other side of the fence.

Let’s put it this way, If I needed mine doing it would go to John Eales or Power.
