Picked up a hire car last night.
E220d hybrid. 74 plate.
Filled it with Diesel.
Range said 721 miles.
Drove 220 miles to London.
Before Getting to Staples Corner the range was showing 1080. Its now showing 1082.
If this keeps up the range will be showing as 1500 when we get back home.

No range anxiety worries then.
I have the petrol mild hybrid version, so it obviously won't match those figures, but after a fill it does show a range of about 600 miles.

Being a full hybrid, the battery on yours can move the car, so possibly you may have done about 70 miles without using the diesel engine. When running with IC power, did you find coasting downhill (ECO Mode) rather strange ?
I no longer use either ECO, or Stop/Start. It occurred to me, that a huge extra number of engine starts (zero oil pressure for the first moment, may not be too good for longevity. Obviously not applicable to drivers of rental cars.

I think they may well have taken this into consideration during the design phase
My Aston Martin allows full oil pressure to be established before permitting the engine to fire. It is driver controlled.
Handy because many of those cars are left unused for periods and also some have a dry sump lubrication system.
What Mercedes-Benz might have implemented during the design phase I don't know.
Perhaps an electric oil pressure pump, that in some mysterious way, can tell in advance when an engine is about to be started.

That is an interesting attribute of an E Class.
I just want to enjoy wafting along at a leisurely pace.
Most odd, because in sports cars I like to drive fast.

The whole point of renting an E class (or similar) was to ensure that she had the most comfort. Given that its 5 hours on an average day.
