Talk to me about home air conditioning. What’s your advice on choosing the right one?

Thanks! I’ll check out the thread.

I was thinking of fitted, not portable.

It's great, though you'll have to get pipes from the internal units to the outside controllers. That's the real PITA. Easy on a new build (I did), but I'd imagine it would be much more of a hassle on an existing property.

Wouldn't be without it though.10C cooler indoors than out. Bliss.

Agreed. It's the first summer we've had AC in the upstairs bedrooms, cannot remember how we managed without it before. SWMBO is now talking about if we should get one for the kitchen and living downstairs!!

We've just moved and have had 6 indoor/2outdoor units installed. Our old house had 3 indoor/3 outdoor. The new house is on oil which we want to eliminate in time. These units chill and heat, all controlled on an app or via remote controls, and can be programmed to come on and off like central heating. The heating side of it is ultra efficient, and with solar panels the chilling is almost free.

As it stands we will need the oil boiler for heating water, bathrooms, hall and landing, but it will eventually be replaced by an electric boiler.
