Not sure if anybody has had this happen, however:

My LH door mirror has just had the total wobbles, not the mushroom part but the plate that attaches the mirror body to mushroom.

Griff 500 1996, lots of mushroom replacements but mirror units are like rocking horse poo.

Anybody mounted a different mirror?

VW Corrado mirrors can be fitted (same as used on the T cars). Someone makes an adaptor and then it's just a case of sorting out the wiring!

Loads of info available with a bit of searching, you're certainly not the first to have a floppy one wink

If you go the Corrado route (personally I like the look) you should source blue tint, convex or blind spot versions of the mirror glass.

Really helps improve the view in the mirrors and substantially reduces glare at night.

It may be possible to repair your mirror, the main frame casting is no longer available but Motaclan do a repair plate, depending how "hands on" you are (and how badly it is damaged) it would be easy enough to make something.

Quite happy, the challange here is the original mirror was hex bolted with captured nut, the plate has no captured nut, I agree this is a path all avenues are open
