Nest pension transfer: now requiring a safeguarding appoint.
Discussion
Can anyone assist with the legal requirement for Nest requesting a safeguarding appointment.
We have been since October 2024 trying to arrange a transfer out of a rather modest pension into another provider.
We have complied with all of Nests wishes thus far, and have gained an advanced hoop jumping qualification. Even the transfer recipient has been in touch with Nest on our behalf more than a couple of times, but still this nonsense continues.
So, are we legally obliged to attend a safeguarding appointment whatever the f
k one of those is.
TIA.

I believe it’s standard practice and for your protection especially if it’s a DB transfer to avoid any concerns of scamming and suchlike.
Whether you feel you need to is academic as if you have been referred for the appointment no sign off will happen without it.
I think it’s no more than a 30 minute phone call.

Have a look at this site ,plenty of talk about “ flags raised “ but no mention of amounts but I guess £3k may be a lot to some and all that they have ?
Hopefully once you have had the call then things will progress rapidly.

Had to do the same a couple of years back k, it’s just basic why are you doing this, have you thought about x are you aware of scammers etc. You just have to play the game and get it done.
Thank you, it's understood as a requirement; however this has been done more than a few times prior to this request in other formats with them.Feet dragging is not even close , as before this began in October...
I have 'recently' had to go through this (not with NEST). And still am.
I am transferring a small DC pension circa £4k into my main pension. There has been many emails and much time spent since Feb. Many forms to complete, recomplete when they lost them and then the need to book the interview when slots became available as it was a third party service (to get to there took until the end of June). Following the brief, friendly interview, I was told it should take a few weeks before they could progress things. And here we still are... Apparently their scams protection team have a backlog.
I have been fairly laid back about it as I started the transfer just as Trump decided to trash the world economy so was happy to watch things slowly recover. Which reminds me, I need to send them another email.

I did that call about 3 years ago. I was retiring at the time after working for 40 years in finance Banking and personal finance.
It was about 40 mins with a very poorly qualified and inexperienced person.
I remained pleasant, went through the process and moved on.
It's just a part of the process.
