Sitting in traffic alongside a Porsche and looked at the badge. It clearly showed Cayman Turbo S. Knowing that the Cayman is an EV, I looked and confirmed a lack of exhaust pipes. So how the hell can it be a Turbo? Or has turbo now changed meaning from being short for turbocharged to being shorthand for the faster version?

“ The "Porsche Turbo Electric" refers to high-performance, all-electric models within Porsche's lineup. Specifically, it applies to the Taycan Turbo S (a sports saloon) and the Macan Turbo Electric (an SUV). These models combine electric powertrains with Porsche's signature performance characteristics, including powerful acceleration, sporty handling, and advanced technology feature”

I think the name is ridiculous - calling an electric car Turbo / Turbo S is just stupid

And the base 911 has been turbocharged for 13 years - "turbo" has been a synonym for "the fast one"/disconnected from a mode of induction since 2011!

No more stupid than certain manufacturers fitting voice boxes to make their electric products sound like their old V12 . The OP needs to watch he doesn't fall foul of these new proposed eyesight tests . Cayman ?? biglaugh

yes, but at least the "Turbo" still has a different engine to the base car and is in fact a turbo, so it still kind of makes sense, while on the Taycan it makes no sense at all. base car has "only" been turbo since I think 2016, so call it 9 years

yes I'm pretty sure our vacuum cleaner has a "turbo" mode and it certainly doesn't have a turbocharger. "Turbo" has been a term for "more powerful" or just "better" for decades.

You are all right, it was a Taycan and not a Cayman, the big ugly one. I even checked the Porsche website to make sure someone hadn't been sticking extra badges on to make it look flash and that model really did exist. A performance model, yes, but calling it a turbo?

Joe Public understands “Turbo” on Porsche = betterer

So Taycan Turbo = betterer than Taycan 4S

Unfortunately not... Being a Mach 3 razor it has afterburners instead.

Confusing a Taycan with a Cayman I’d suggest not to get too concerned with what level of trim it was

Is it any worse than calling a road car a "GT3" when it's clearly doesn't meet GT3 homologation rules?

I'll admit, Porsches of any sort haven't been of any interest to me for years, I'd rather have the RS7 I had for a few months over any of them. But calling a car a turbo when it doesn't have one seems particularly stupid to me. I appreciate that the Saab Turbo started it many years ago when the word came to mean anything that was supposedly better than the non turbo version hence the turbo razor, vacuum cleaner (although even then you could argue that it has a scroll impeller so could loosely be likened to a turbo) and so on. But surely, sticking a Turbo badge on a car that doesn't have one is no different to the kid that sticks Turbo GTI badges on his 1.1 litre NA hatchback?
