Afternoon everyone.

I need to spend one night in Manchester, just wondering if anyone has a hotel recommendation somewhere close to Piccadilly train station?

The shortlist so far is:

Dakota.
The Edwardian.
Native.
Marriott Picadilly.

Hilton on deansgate is excellent, good breakfast and nice bar on the higher floor with great views of the city.

Yep always had a good stay here.

I believe the building has been sold to another hotel chain (IHG I think) so some of the facilities on offer may change soon frown (Access to the club lounge is well worth it)

Hilton not that close to Piccadilly though.

Dakota is a good shout, 5 mins walk round the corner.

Yeah, I'd have to get a taxi to the Hilton because I will have a big suitcase with me. It looks great, but I'd rather get somewhere I can walk to.

I'm tempted by the Dakota, especially as it has a cigar terrace. But I am leaning towards getting a 'Panoramic junior suite' with 'M Club lounge access' at the Marriott Piccadilly. Looks like it is really close to the station, the rooms are a decent size, and the lounge access looks like a good addition, including breakfast the next morning and food/alcohol from 5 PM to 9 PM. Unlimited Becks on tap as far as I can see, which is tempting.

Recently stayed at The Reach, 5 mins walk around the corner.
Not a big chain, great breakfast, super friendly staff.

Sounds pretty good! It’s the former Macdonald hotel - only recently having been rebranded. They did some refurb works as part of the the rebrand, but I’m not sure how much it got spruced up. Pretty close though, but right next to the Mancunian way adLondon Road - both can be very busy roads.

Dakota is probably the best and most modern of the ones you list.

Breakfast very good.

I used to be in Manchester regularly for business, and I would frequently stay at the Malmaison (Piccadilly, not the one on Deansgate) which is less than 3 mins walk from Piccadilly station, which was super convenient. Standard rooms are really nice, and once you get to the deluxe ones or the suites, they are really rather nice places to be.

I can also recommend The Lowry, but thats not quite as convenient for the station if you have luggage.

Dakota nicer than both. Lowry is decent but would benefit updating given 5 star status.

Third for Malmaison, if you want somewhere that’s a minute or two from the station, it really is very easy.

We stayed at the Native a few months back. £109 for the one bed apartment. Extremely good value. Not the kind of place you’d stay if you wanted facilities and service, but for convenience location and just a very nice place to stay it will be our first choice again next time.

I've used a few Native places around the country, and they are great value - good sized, nicely styled rooms, usually quite a young vibe. No restaurants or bars, but generally very well situated.

Yes young vibe but not to the detriment of the decor as in, say, a moxy.

The cafe/bar in the Manchester one is ok but you’re daft to eat in a hotel when there’s so many better options in walking distance.

Idle Hands for breakfast / coffee.

Pollen Bakery for lunch

Another Hand for dinner. Sorted

I've ended up doing this. Very cool place to be. Got a comically low rate with it being Tuesday and a 15% discount by signing up to the mailing list. £92.

Thanks for your advice, everyone.
