F11 - rear tracking foo-barred
Discussion
I've got a 2010 F11 520D.
It's had a problem with it's rears for a while, it's scrubbing off the inside of the NSR, quite epically to be honest.
It went initially to our local tyre place who had the car a whole day before they admitted defeat and said they couldn't get anything undone. They aren't allowed to use heat and the biggest stuff they had couldn't move anything.
Then it has been to my local indy to have a look, who tackles most things, but quite admittedly said, no he wouldn't even attempt it. The whole rear suspension assembly has to come off at which point he said he wouldn't undertake the work. Wouldn't give me an estimate.
Decided to take matters into our own hands, my Dad has a barn with a 4 post lift (as you do). Ordered a load of lower wishbone eclectic bolts. The sodding lower ones only do the toe in / toe out (from memory) and swinging on very very long bars we broke the bolts and had to make the lot glow before we could bash them out. That leaves the upper ones. Dad (who used to service / MOT HGV's threw in the towel) and said the upper ones will be a right arse to do and the whole lot will have to come out.
Said the best thing I could do would be to chuck tyres at it and ignore the suspension. It would be cheaper than trying to sort it.
Run the car 'til it's scrap and chuck it through WBAC, or chuck it in as a trade for something else. Again, that's all very well and good if I had the money to do that.
Any bright ideas ??
Below is the wear in about 500 miles in the past month. Photo 10th July and yesterday.

The large lower swing arm eccentric adjusts the camber, the upper arm that connects to the rear of the knuckle adjusts the toe. Haven't seen your alignment print out but if that's 500 miles of wear on that tyre your toe will be miles out.
You said you spoke to an indie, a BMW inde or general, if general have you tried a BMW inde?

It was my local BMW indie. Who has done jobs on my old F10, Mrs BS's E87 and to date this F11.You said you spoke to an indie, a BMW inde or general, if general have you tried a BMW inde?
I'll give them a shout tomorrow, I think he might have mis-understood and thought I wanted it adjusting without it coming apart which he couldn't do (as it was ceased).

Nope. The upper arm is camber. The lower arm is toe, but it also affects the camber a bit whilst you're adjusting it, so then the top one can require a tweak again.I've just had my rear subframe out to change the bushes and all those arms. Quite involved but within the realms of a decent garage.
