Fun to drive, interesting and under £50k?

if I was looking for something under £50k, fun to drive, interesting, what would you look at?

I do like a Merak.

If fun = point and squirt with a sense of occasion, a 308GT4? Probably a bit more usable than a Merak and easier to run.

They must have halved in value in the past ten years or so. Prices were a bit toppy, but there are some nicely restored cars out there now for cracking prices. Gorgeous looking things.

I think a start point should be to decide which decade and then compose a list of cars that were considered to handle well in period.

I'm thinking of going back to the 70s and buying something I lusted after as a schoolboy. Initially thought Capri, but I had a couple in period and I think an Alfa or Lancia would handle better.

Merek would be nice and have always looked like good value compared to their peers.

And that black one looks very interesting, although, I couldn't deal with black gain on a car, as good as it looks.

I'd consider a nice Mk.2 Jag as well, but so many have been mucked around with, its not easy to find a nice unmolested one now, or one that's been correctly restored without added 'tat'.

Maybe an Austin-Healey 100-6 might be on the list to look at.

A very, very nice restored Elan Sprint would be in budget.

I wouldn't touch a Merek with a bargepole, the idea of a combination of Citroen and Maserati bits make's me shudder

Where did they go to price wise? Also what’s the current pricing look like, seems like there’s a paragraph spread which would make me worry about future pricing

I’m fairly open, just want something that can be fun to drive, looks cool or beautiful. Ideally won’t loose 10% a year!

I think most classics are going to lose 10% or more a year for a while, based on current trends.

Forgot to mention. To be fun I suggest something that you can stretch its legs without losing your license.
