A good friend of mine is considering EC (as a consultant) and has visited EC HQ, a glitzy, highly polished, and professional building with super-efficient staff.

He is looking to be a consultant/Mentor, and I am highly suspicious about why anyone would want to use it as a service, but I am not the target market.

Is anyone a member or a client, and if so, what do you think?

Your friend should look at some of the enterprise services provided by their local authority (district and county levels). Many operate mentoring schemes where they partner established business owners with start up or small businesses. Back in the days of Business Link, this was something they did and many local authorities absorbed that into their own endeavours when Business Link came to and end.

Personally, I'm very sceptical about any 'opportunity' that requires seasoned experts to part with their cash in advance of returns downstream. In the case of EC, that's £5k and then £500 a month. Plus VAT.

I'm sure it works for some but seems weighted towards existing business coaches. And whilst there's many that are good, I tend to agree with BGARK on the general quality one more often finds. And I suspect that the clientele is dominated by Mums selling Aloe Vera and lads trying set up some drop shipping type business. No shame in either of course but might not be the level your friend would expect.

Thanks chaps, my thoughts similar but he’s looking at a paid income from his consulting so we’re looking further. I’ll update on progress.

Not EC but similar, when I set up Forth View Designs ltd I took out a business loan from startuploans who as part of the loan offered a business mentor.

I found both of my mentors to be fairly useless, one as mentioned by BGARK was in it it set up their own consultancy business and the other wasn't much use at all other than running a shop that my product could be sold in.

Neither had ever set up their own businesses so I've become very sceptical about this sort of thing.
