Ten minutes ago over Sheffield, looked to be three warbirds (didn’t have my glasses on). Had a look on FlightRadar but they didn’t show upconfused

Can't help, but something like a Swordfish went over my house today. Wasn't on FR24 though.

It won't help you now, but ADSB Unfiltered is a better app for seeing most things than FR24.

I’m doubting my own sanity now! There were three, close formation, sounding very Merliny, one looked Mustangy as well. One appeared to have the elevators at the top of the tail, like a Westland Whirlwind, though obviously it wasn’t one of them. Kicking myself for not having my glasses on, I could be deluding myself but I’m certain they weren’t just any old civvy aircraft.

We had a formation of three Spitfires, a Hispano Buchon (Spanish-built Bf109) and Gippsland Airvan go over the other day. The tail on the Buchon could perhaps give the illusion of being higher up.

The one the funny tail was twin engined, I’m sure. I’ve just checked in the bin and the empty packet of crisps I went out to buy is there, so I know it wasn’t a dream!

Slight possibility it might have been the two Dan Friedkin owned P-51D's (Fragile but Agile and Double Trouble Two) that are currently being flown over from the USA to UK or Europe, and they may have been using a safety back-up modern twin for the transit flight across the ocean. Not sure where they are headed for, as two of his other P-51's (he owns 8 of them...!!....well, 7 x P-51 plus an A-36) that were based here in UK for a good few years, have now been moved over to mainland Europe about 18 months ago or more.
So, these two could be staying in UK or heading straight to Europe to join the other two.

However, last I heard was that they were overnighting in Greenland on Sat/Sun, so I would have thought they'd do another overnight stop in Iceland before reaching the UK, so might be too early if you saw them yesterday...?

The above mentioned Mustangs flew into Duxford from Prestwick accompanied by a King Air yesterday evening, not sire if their route would’ve taken them over Sheffield though

They left this morning around 11

Yep, both P-51D's landed at Salzburg this afternoon and are parked up at the Red Bulls hangar (the King Air escort was a Red Bull owned a/c it seems)
