Hi all, I've an airbag light on for the passenger seat. Checked the connector, sprayed some WD40, and all looks to be good but it keeps coming on after clearing the DTCs.

Question - 3 wires on the yellow connector, if I use a multimeter to check the resistance between the 2 that aren't ground (brown) am I in danger of setting it off?

Next question - I see some cheats with putting a 2.2ohm resistor between these 2 wires (this would just be to check I haven't got an issue anywhere else with the loom etc) and to see if the light stays off after clearing DTCs, again am I in danger of setting anything off?

As you can probably tell........I'm a proper scaredy-cat flames

Quite right too. I wouldn't be messing with something I didn't understand that is potentially dangerous and could be difficult to replace.

The person diagnosing this should be able to get a starting point for the investigation by understanding what the DTCs indicate.

By the way, use a proper electrical contact cleaner - altough there is a WD40 branded contact cleaner, generic WD40 spray oil is not a contact cleaner.

I have done some jobs over the years on them and always follow the guidelines to disconnect the battery for the specified time before doing any work.
Never had any issues, depends what car it is but the guides online are normally pretty good.

So, is the airbag light for the airbag in the seat bolster, for the seat belt pre-tensioner or for the passenger seat occupation sensor?

Also which car might help.

I’m guessing it’s a three door with a slidey seat?

Oh, brilliant, a three-door, that narrows it down a lot, thanks! wink

Yes 3 door Audi A1. But definitely nothing looking loose or corroded on the connector/wires etc.

So, do you still plan to investigate and fix this yourself?

Using my crystal ball it will be the wiring under the seat.

Any chance of an answer to this one?

Airbag igniter - resistance too high
