Was that open for pedestrian access this year?

No, for the 24hr at least. We had to exit the circuit via Porte Est and walk through the stadium carpark, up the road past the closed gate and under the bridge to get to the (much changed) Tertre Rouge bar.

It was open for the Classic this year, we used it every day to get in and out and to the Terre Rouge Bar for lunch.

Thanks, should have clarified, it’s the 24 I’m thinking about, I thought they’d said it would be open, doesn’t make much sense for it not to be.

I think it is easier for crowds to/from the tram to be managed from the terminus near Porte Est and for the tram platforms at Guetteloup to be closed during peak times. I believe this is the reason why the pedestrian gate under the bridge at TR corner is now closed for the main race days.

I’m sure I saw a photo at some point during the 24hr weekend of the gate completely overwhelmed with crowd and only two staff trying to get people in.

I drove past TR gate on way to Expo parking on Sunday morning about 10 am. The queue was massive . Went all the way under flyover and around corner
