Looking into treating myself to my first Porsche and I've seen a great GT4 that might be the one.

I've noticed that there are 20 for sale on AT and seem to remember that these were heavily sought after at launch so I'm wondering if there is a reason for there being so many available? Any impending bork issues?

From what I know these are great cars so I'm really excited to get booked in for a test drive assuming the numbers come back within budget and I reckon it's a fairly safe place to park some money while I enjoy driving it.

So, am I missing something????

You are missing nothing, aside from relative over supply of the 718 GT4. My 981 GT4 was one of the best, and probably the most trouble free car I've owned in a 58 year old's motoring history, including 5 Porsches. The 981 GT4 is the only one I've bought used, and only because I couldn't get allocated a new one at the time. If I'd had workshop room to keep it, I would have. Too much character for some, maybe, but possibly the best sports car ever. For me, a high point with no downside.

I did around 34,000 miles in mine, many on track. Yes it was over-serviced .. yes it was modified ... yes it was completely reliable and it used very little oil with a very good compression test as part of the sale inspection ...

A great car with so many advantages that moderate running costs ... all metal body, five lug wheels etc ...

I had mine for 11 months and didn’t like it. But I am in the minority people seam to love them. An active engine mount failed on mine. I think a £1600 job and fairly common by all accounts.

Luckily I had it u see Porsche warranty and it was sorted very quickly and smoothly. I was impressed with the Porsche dealer.

on the numbers side if we assume around 500 in the UK then 4% for sale at any one time which considering its usually a play/weekend thing sounds about right.

As we go into winter I imagine a few more will come onto sale however I also think people are now starting to hold onto them more as both generations are no longer produced and nothing following them so a pretty safe place to put your money.

I loved mine which I had for 3 years. Great cars. Reliable, brilliant steer, soundtrack. Whats not to like. Regret selling it really.

OPC cars for sale
981 GT4 2
718 GT4 manual 8
718 GT4 PDK 5

There are not many about and with production ceased in 2023 there won’t be anymore

2020 718 manuals up for about £78k & 2022 PDK’s about £84k so prices look to be hardening up as you have to think with the current EV revolution & prices of new Porsches these are being held onto more now
Time will tell
I have one of the last 2023 GT4 ‘s and it’s just an absolute delight to drive & own

This! And under £100k so trackday insurance cost is easier. Plus you can stick a warranty on them. Such a great all rounder and fun and relatively hassle free.

20 really isn't a lot considering where this car sits in terms of being a toy and people having various reasons for selling such as wanting something else, baby, house move or whatever

I've owned my 981 GT4 (Club Sport spec) for 5 1/2 years now and will probably never sell it. It ticks all the boxes for me and is relatively cheap to run. I extend the Porsche warranty every year which in March this year cost £720.

As these cars are around 10 years old now Porsche offer a 20% discount on servicing so my next minor service will be around £750 which to be honest I don't is too bad given you'd pay that for a BMW M car.

All in all I think the 981 GT4 is a great car and I've never had any issues with mine in the time I've owned it, it's a keeper for me.

This is exactly the feedback I'm looking for! It's a really compelling proposition, though I've had my heart set on a 991.1 manual for a while now this seems like a happy compromise.

Now, one more question. I don't have a garage so is this a car that can be left on a driveway happily enough with a drive every few days?

Had mine for nearly 5yrs and I thought it was a great car but decided to sell because I didn't use it much plus, as I hate paying tax, the £760 VED became unpaletable when every car Apr 2017 onwards is now £195.

I sold private and 6-months later the buyer decided to buy a 992GT3RS so he offered me the car back at what he was offered in trade. I would have accepted had I not dabbled with a 718 Boxster at the time.

I'll buy another, but it will be a 718 GT4 manual. Not got the sound but the upgrades and some additional creature comforts are a plus for me.

We kept our outside on a drive for 4yrs, never any issues, put it on a trickle charge every now and again and drove it 4-5 times per month i guess, never any issues. It was an absolutely fabulous car, best i've owned, toured NW Scotland in it every October and it never missed a beat. I'd buy another in a heart beat such a sense of occasion driving it even with the18 way seats LOL.
