The missus has a 2y old Cooper which is due a service

Funnily enough when she booked it in with the dealer today they told her that her car is in big demand second hand and they could do her a once in a lifetime deal on a new car

Whilst I have no reason to dispute the generosity of a car dealer it would be good to get a handle on what kind of discounts are achievable elsewhere without much haggling. When she bought the car just over 2y ago at a good price locally Carwow and a dealer in the SE with a rep for discounting BMWs both had discounted prices on their websites and social feeds which were comparable however neither of these are available today

Consequently if anyone knows whats the going rate of discount off a new Cooper S or a JCW I would be very grateful

Cheers

I was told by a dealer last week (picking up a used Copper S) that there are no deals on a new mini. The price is set by BMW/Mini and the dealers are no longer allowed to offer any incentives to encourage a purchase. This includes a full tank of fuel or any freebies.
A new model that BMW seem to be moving to for all their car sales but starting it with Mini. The sales girl was less than impressed with the changes.

They may be able to offer a better trade in price on a used car though.

Mini now use an Agency model like Tesla to sell cars. They don't have there own stock, it's just one big central stock list or they can order a factory build.

This is why you won't get quotes from the likes of Carwow or coast2coast on new Mini.

Discount and finance rates are controlled by Mini UK. I think it's 4.9% on a Cooper S and JCW, C was 3.9% and no discounts currently. When I got mine they were doing £750 off.

"big demand second hand and they could do her a once in a lifetime deal on a new car"

Typical sales line, BMW/Mini have never offered me a great deal on my part ex, I've always got a lot more selling through Carwow/Motorway.

I was in MIni in Manchester yesterday, every car in the showroom was an EV and all but one were Countryman's

I too have a hankering after a Cooper JCW ( petrol) to replace my Countryman (diesel ) but there were none on site

So perhaps the great deal might be on an EV, particularly a Countryman, if Mini dealer I was in is representative

As an aside I was the only person in there and there were 4 or 5 sales staff sat looking very bored

ps the giant four story BMW dealer next door was equally as deserted

Earlier this year I bought a 21-plate low miles Cooper S from a main dealer in Scotland for £14450.

After a few months of use I decided it wasn't for me, but whilst having some warranty work done at Sytner I noticed a sign in service reception saying that they were looking for good quality BMW/Mini stock.

Out of curiosity I checked Motorway and they suggested a reserve of £13850. I thought that was strong money so authorised it going into their dealer auction that evening where it sold for the reserve.

The buyer turned out to be another Mini main dealer in Portsmouth. They collected it via a low loader, and advertised it for £15750. Autotrader rated it as a 'high price' and within about a fortnight it was down to £14750. It sold soon after, but after transport and advertising costs, and corp tax, I doubt they made more than a few quid on it.

Strange times!

Oddly it’s always been far easier to get far better deals, discounts and finance on almost any BMW compared to a mini

I cannot begin to explain how or why that is…. “ using the same finance house and parent company “
Can anyone far more clever than me clarify why this is?

I was in MINI yesterday. Salesman said they were using an Agency model and the price was the price. He did as someone said above suggest they have events coming up where I would save £750. The stock seemed ok price wise. They had a pre reg Countryman JCW level 3 for about £35k. It seemed ok value at that.

At some stage I will have to replace Mrs 131 Sports 2018 Mini Cooper Clubman as we’ve had it 5 years.

She’ll want Sport Spec and most likely a 2 door with the 3 Cylinder 156 BHP engine. We both like it in Sunnyside Yellow. I would be looking for a deal so it’s interesting they don’t seem to be about.

With the move to an agency model my view is the sales people couldn’t seem less interested in selling cars.

I’ve been in twice to ask about test driving a JCW Aceman. Both times the clueless sales people have taken my details. Both times they’ve failed to get back to me. I suspect that’s probably down to MINI not making JCWs available to dealers but the lack of contact is just weird.

I even complained and the person who called said ‘they were guessing I’d not been called as a car wasn’t available’. How about you actually speak to the person who didn’t call me and give me a proper explanation?

I’m convinced that a year ago they’d have been on the phone, even if it was to offer a drive in an alternative version. I’ve had five of the things over the years so the chances of me having another were actually pretty good. Not now, as I’m not going to be made to work to spend £40k.

I would quite happily px my Mini SE against a pre reg Countryman but Mini dealers will only begrudgingly offer WBAC value for the PX and not budge off their advertised price . They seem to have quite a lot of poverty spec pre reg Electric Countrymans with no heated seats/ head up display ( need level 1 for this ) and basic wheels.

Mini, but slight topic change:

We're looking for a late'ish, low miles Cooper S for my wife, so we went, last Sunday, to the behemoth that is Cotswold Cheltenham, to find it closed!.
There were about half a dozen couples wandering about, looking at Minis/BMW's and the security guard said they always had quite a few people looking on Sundays. All that overhead and not making use of it??. After that, we went to Gloucester and couldn't speak to a sales person, as they were all busy, with people buying cars! don't understand it as I haven't got time to do this in the week.

Book an appointment for next weekend with the dealers in Gloucester.

Worth noting you're not obliged to trade the car in to the dealer you're buying the new car off. Try other dealers who stock cars like yours - ask to speak to the used car buyer - and also try all of the main online buying sites.

The new Mini is very desirable and therefore discounts will be hard to come by. Five years ago Mrs 131 Sport took a lot of persuading to even look at a Mini.

Audi were offering a very good price earlier on this year on A1 TFSI S Lines. I offered to buy her one and she simply wasn’t interested as only another Mini would suffice.

With a 2 door Sport Spec Cooper being in the region of £30k, I better get saving.

Had a pre reg MINI E Classic with a pack and paint option on that was listed when new (Jan 2025) at £32600 for £21295 on a 74 plate with 70 miles on the clock, great second car for the price with build and paint quality to put plant Oxford to shame. Moving to agency should help used values on MINIs too.

The problem for us is that we wouldn’t want an Electric or Classic.

That’s every dealer at every Marque now and has been for a while, they don’t need to “sell” you a car anymore.

It’s not every dealer at every marque though. Plenty still operating the traditional model in the UK. And I don’t want or need them to ‘sell’ me a car. Just a bit of customer service.
