We need a new kettle. O/H would like one where the push-button lid opens 90 degrees to the top, i.e. wide open and made of glass, preferably with cup measures marked both sides.

I bought one that I thought would be perfect but the lid only opened to 45 degrees so back it went.

Can anyone recommend one that fits the bill please? Up to £50-ish?

No need to open the lid at all.

Well, it's very easy unless you want something extremely specific like cup marks on both sides, made of a certain material and the lid to open a particular way.

Apart from anything the whole 'cup' measurement is an Anglo thing and often not available on stuff designed for the EU market.

I'd be inclined to go to somewhere like John Lewis or Currys and get hands on to find exactly what works best for you.

Slightly above budget, but we got one of these about 6 months ago and we're striuggling to fault it.

Variable temperature control and will keep the water warm for you afterwards, can confirm the lid opens to 90 degrees (ish) and it has the cup markers, albeit only on one side.

Bosch TWK7090B seems to open to almost *90* degrees, but not the entire top.

have been using one of these for many years (mine lights up blue when in use). Works a treat.

That's the one I sent back, the push-button only opens the lid this far.

It may not be a deal breaker to some (probably many) but O/H has neuropathy problems in her hands. Occasionally she wants to be independent and make her own cuppa.

I've got this kettle, it's really handy not having to open the lid! It's not the fastest boiling kettle in the world but I like it overall.

Weird literature show it open like this

It will open that far but only if you do it manually. I had hoped it might free up after a month's use but it didn't.

Thank you all for the other suggestions which I will feed back for approval / disapproval.

I think a lot of them are like that. The push button opens it 45 degrees, and then you can push it a bit more open with your hand. I guess having a sprung catch that opens to 90 degrees is a bit tricky

One of my pet hates is kettles with lids that don't open 90 degs (and aren't fast boil). A stupid idea as once you've pressed the button to open it, you then have to lift the lid back further. Similar to toasters not taking a slice of Warburons Toast. I made a template by drawing around a slice onto some card and I took that to the shops with me smile

Whilst not glass... for anyone else the Ninja kettle lid opens fully and it a very good kettle, can set custom temp or use the preset 95 degs for coffee etc.

I can confirm the lid opens to around 75degrees
It's plastic rather than glass though

Haha yes but he does have a point. My Russell Hobs toaster won’t take regular Warburtons sliced bread so I have to buy their ‘small’ loaves.

Kettles are surprisingly difficult. I wanted one where there was no plastic in the internals. I found a grand total of 5.

1 was terrible quality so I sent it back.
Another was £200. No. For a kettle?
Two, I think were the same but just branded and shaped a bit differently, but had electronic temperature controls, and I didn’t want this complexity, just another thing to go wrong.

Ended up with a Zwilling Enfinigy.

Honestly found it easier to buy full sized appliances, dishwasher and washing machine.

The one I inked above has no plastic internals. Makes the water taste crap so i avoid too.

Dishwasher for tea, washing machine for coffee?
