Expensive little item on a 992RS last week
Discussion
I was having the car washed when the guy doing it managed to climb into the back to wash the inside of the glass, ( no roll cage). Quite flexible of him with fixed LWBs. To get out he put his hand around the B pillar and onto the glass. It immediately cracked when he pulled himself out lf as it is lightweight glass. Turns out this is a very fragile panel. Dealer has had another one in for a crack.
I dropped the car for the replacement . When they opened the box for the replacement part it was also cracked. Will be fixed tomorrow. This is a Canadian spec car. Replacement glass panel : $5000.

Chris Harris did a YT vid with Andreas Preuninger when the 992.2 GT3 was launched. As Chris went to close door using the window Andreas stopped him, told him never to do that as lightweight glass is so fragile.
So they're not fit for purpose then really.Perhaps if they'd spent less time and money on the "acoustic film" that's a feature of the glass (it reduces road and wind noise, whilst "adding to the interior acoustics" apparently, and instead they'd concentrated on the primary function of glass in a car, such breakages wouldn't be the common issue they appear to be (there's a 17 page thread on Rennlist on the subject)
My guess is the weight difference between a standard 992 rear quarter light glass and the "lightweight" easily broken item, is less than 300g, so it's pretty pointless and expensive "upgrade" in the big scheme of things.

Just like the Pyro Fuse ... ?
At what point do Porsche become shameable for this ??
The most profitable car manufacturer by margin in the world ... maybe not for long ???

That’s something else all together. You should never shut a frameless door by the glass on any car. I believe OP is referring to glass panel behind that.
I learned this the hard way. The first time I replaced a cracked (lightweight) quarter window on an RS I'd heard how they are easy to break when installing. I got past that part no problem, but did the same thing when it was installed: placed my hand on the straight edge to pop my head inside the car for one last look before handing the car back to the owner.
CRACK.
A new window retails at £1800.00.
You only have to look at them wrong and they'll crack!
When I quote for privacy a glass delete on these, the glass alone is £5k.
