A rental I own near London needs carpets, including taking the old one away. Just basic standard, vinyl in kitchen.. quote I’ve had from my agent seems excessive any landlord here done it recently? Ballpark figure? Cheers

Should cost less that recarpeting a ballpark.

Average size 15 foot lounge 12 foot bedroom. Call it 300 square feet total. Forget the vinyl just carpets for lounge hall and bedroom. Would have to move furniture and take away old ones. Done to a basic rental standard

Christ, it’s not cheap. £100k - £150k for a football pitch.

Absolute lol.

I have just done a rental flat, just 2 beds and 2 staircases and vinyl in the bathroom. Including underlay, grippers and fitting I couldn’t get cheaper than £1800. That was with a low end carpet, not ultra-low with a felt back as that would disintegrate on the stairs. I had already got rid of the old carpets & underlay.

SE prices, had to go to a retailer as I couldn’t find a carpet fitter willing to independently supply & fit, or just fit only.

I presume the poster you quoted was referencing the three fiddy South Park meme rather than actually suggesting £350.

do you have to get rid of underlay?

Just inherited some carpet which needs replacing. the underlay is old but looks and feels premium, does it get soiled?

Dammit, I have a brand new 4 bed house shortly and was hoping to get away with £5-6k, but that feels optimistic now!

Go to a local independent carpet/flooring shop.
The sort that serves local hotels and businesses.

I think the last carpet we bought was under £400 fully fitted with new underlay for a double bedroom, and wasn't the cheapest by a long way.

Alternatively, look for a remnants warehouse.
I bought a carpet for my office for £30 IIRC, and fitted it myself, but they had loads of business cards for fitters.
