Looking at a Z4 that was new Dec 22 and got a 10k service done May 25.....now for sale with 13k

Just checking, the miles are low but would the onboard system not flag anything for a car going 2 years without a check?

(Only double checking as I had a new X3M Comp that missed its first service by a week and ended up a nightmare to sell!)

Car looks mint, as you'd expect - but wanted to be sure!

Sounds OK.

M40i so not a 'proper' M car - no running in service needed.

My wife has just bought a new Z4 which doesn't need a service until 2 years or 19K miles, then it's just an oil service.

Service intervals are mileage dependant or if the mileage required is not reached every two years

10k and two years would be correct

Not sure if I'm being slow, but isn't that six months late? Which is quite a lot on an already long service interval. Unless you're planning on keeping it forever it's unlikely a delayed oil change would really matter, but it might put off a future buyer and you might want to check what it would mean for the warranties.

So for everyone saying 2 years is ok - this was 2 years in Dec 24 and didnt get a service till May 25.....that delay not a big deal?

The car was most likely sat on a dealers forecourt for that period

The only proviso I would have is that you get it in writing that the BMW new car warranty is still valid as technically it's gone over the 24 months

That may well explain it. So long as it came with the AUC Warranty I wouldn't be put off.

Was it Bought from a BMW dealer? It should still be under new car warranty but I presume that this might be invalidated by overdue service. If it was sat in dealers forecourt which is pure supposition I would imagine that they would service it. I would move on lots more cars out there.

I’m personally not onboard with this 2 year and circa 20k service intervals. My BMW does predominantly motorway miles and I get it serviced every 12 to 14 months at 10-12k mile intervals.

I bet it's sat at an independent I wouldn't bother with it, it's not even 3 years old and already it's been serviced out of scope, there will be others and you want that warranty either the balance of the new or AUC for me when buying a fairly new car for top money, you've already experienced difficulty before with the X3M, once bitten twice shy and all that.

The car was serviced at 10K miles though? Definitely not a fan of 20K mile service intervals.

I'd have thought the car would flag if a service was done late.

Is it an AUC?

I don't think the long life servicing on these does them any good - I have 20 plate z4 m40i - I'm the second owner. The dealers dont seem to understand my wish to change the oil every 10kmiles/12months....

At the end of the day the one you are looking at hasn't really been used so if its in good condition and good value then I wouldn't worry - it should be just like a new car!

Check that you can get a BMW warranty on it (Allianz warranty) and enjoy!

Some of the content/info on that dealer reads a bit off (probably isn't, just my normal healthy scepticism)...
  • slightly different spellings of their name
  • odd grammar
  • inconsistent sentence structure, poor/lack of punctuation
Things like:
  • Specialist Cars vs Specialist Carz (was Denham Car Sales Ltd, for 18 months, then BBM Auto London Ltd for 30 months, and now H Specialist Cars Ltd - the latter two involving the same Dr Syed Ayaz Hyder since June 2021)
  • £200k of stock, and all appear to be on stocking loans

I can't see this being worse than any other car that isn't "Approved Used".

I'd buy it, but I'd be careful not to overpay.

13,000 motorway miles in two and a half years? Absolutely fine.
13,000 miles in and around a city centre? Not so good.
But unless you're buying direct from the "one careful owner" you'll never have the chance to find out - other than by looking closely at things like floor mats and pedal rubbers.

I think 2yrs/20,000 miles service intervals are generally fine with modern oils in modern engines.

Just don't rely on the manufacturers warranty to be any good
"Sorry sirs its not been serviced within the manufacturers requirements"

That's why its not for sale at a BMW dealer it doesn't meet BMW AUC conditions

I used to think this until I discovered earlier this year that BMW dealers do now sell Used cars that don't meet the AUC criteria!

The detail is quite hidden on their website, but essentially it is cars just like this Z4 without a full history which can now be retailed by BMW dealers albeit as 'BMW Used' instead of 'Approved Used BMW'
